President JFK refused to listen to his advisors who were advocating for the US Air Force to bomb the Soviet missile sites in Cuba. He understood that the US would have to make concessions to pull the world back from the brink, as US nuclear missiles were stationed in Italy and Turkey aimed directly at the USSR. Me and my mates caused this: We turned up at their wedding uninvited and started fighting with the guests and they had the cheek to tell us to leave because we were ruining their wedding when it was only a few of us and not everyone. Then they tried to lock the doors. But we held them open while more came in. We didn’t like the music either so we made the DJ to swerve the Motown and play some techno to suit us. It was an all inclusive bar and a free buffet so we stayed to the end even though we didn’t like it there. I just wanted to call the family out and tell you all how intolerant they were to us. I’ve never been made to feel so unwelcome. We had just as much of a right to be there as anyone else. It was a public building. They don’t own it. I’m sure you will all agree that the family were bang out of order. We only ruined their wedding the crying cnts. Horrible people.

SNYDER: When I was growing up in '70s and '80s, existence of Soviet Union was as certain as anything could be in politics. People who predicted the end of Soviet Union were outcasts and outliers. And up to December 1991, it was American policy to try to preserve Soviet Union. So it's really striking that all that's solid really can melt into air. The things that seem like absolute bedrocks, or even axioms of political thought, can cease to exist. Breakup of Soviet Union also means that 1990s in Russia happened faster there than here. Time goes faster there than in US. That means that things that are going to happen in US start to happen faster there, such as political postmodernism or return of a certain kind of fascism or oligarchy. So the end of Soviet Union shows that things can come to an end, but it also shows some of the possibilities of 21st-century politics which we then wade into ourselves later on.
