TROPICAL UPDATE: Latest #Bertha NHC Forecast Vs Actual. Unless I need my eyes checked, the low-level swirl and center pulled a sike on a Texas landfall and already pushed into Louisiana again on visible satellite and radar. I'm curious to see the NHC positioning in the next advisory.

⛈️ Heavy rainfall and flooding threat from South Texas to the lower Mississippi Valley A multi-day episode of heavy rain will be driven by the interaction of a nearly stationary cold front, tropical moisture, and a tropical disturbance. The tropical disturbance is currently located over Mexico and will gradually move toward South Texas. According to the NHC/NOAA, the chance that it will organize into a tropical cyclone remains low, around 30%. Regardless of whether a tropical cyclone actually forms, the system may bring intense showers and thunderstorms along the western and central Gulf Coast. Over the next four days, widespread rainfall totals of 4 to 6 inches are expected from the Texas coast into Louisiana, with locally higher amounts possible. Such rainfall totals could trigger flash and river flooding, posing a significant threat to life and property. ⚠️ Please monitor official warnings and follow the instructions of local authorities.

This swirling low-pressure storm is very nearly a Medicane, or Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone, and she could be on a trajectory to make landfall into the deserts of northern Libya soon. Notice the huge plume of dust on the eastern side of the storm getting pulled out to sea by the counter-clockwise circulation.

#StormIngrid keeps spinning rain in from the Southeast with the center clear to see on the radar and satellite loops. Over 20mm has fallen at my station today up to 5pm with 122mm for the month and 90mm of that in the last week!

TROPICAL UPDATE: Considering the ensemble support, the NHC has designated a new area in the Bahamas towards Florida with currently a 10% chance of development. Rainmaker regardless if it forms or not into the weekend. You'll notice in the final frames of our GRAF model a low tries to tighten up a bit towards West Palm and Jupiter Saturday night. Nothing to stress over, I'll watch it for you. WINK News

The previously unnamed Tropical Storm in the shallow Malacca Strait has since been given the name Senyar. The system made landfall over the city of Langsa in Aceh, Indonesia at a 50 mph (80 kph), 996 mbar peak intensity. But Senyar isn’t done. The storm has now RE-EMERGED into the Malacca Strait and is forecast to soon make a second landfall, this one in Malaysia. While Senyar won’t be very strong (potentially only ~40 mph), a Malaysian landfall by a bonafide tropical cyclone is historically rare, as few storms on record have formed this close to the equator (due to the weakness of the Coriolis Effect here).

Wait for it! Solid shift eastward - out to sea - on many of our models and even the new NHC forecast. These are the Google AI ensembles. What’s happening here - partly - is #Humberto is now forecast to be a Cat 5 monster #Hurricane and is exerting an even bigger influence on #Imelda, helping to pull it away like a magnet. Also the upper low in SE is now forecast to be a bit weaker exerting less influence. This is not set in stone, and it may shift back, but it’s a good sign. It’s worth noting the Google AI has been pretty consistent for days with most members showing a stall, then turn east out to sea. Fingers crossed!
