Trump hasn’t and won’t do a thing that benefits working class and middle class Americans. But those voters bought Trump’s carny act. Because, indeed, it’s the economy, stupid:

Donald Trump is no one's savior. He inherited a great economy from Obama and left a smoking ruin in addition to adding over $7 trillion to the national debt. He will inherit a great economy from Biden but will add another $5 Trillion to the national debt and undoubtedly leave it a smoking ruin as well.

I’m still stunned by all of this. You saw his speeches in the last month. The dude was out of his mind. But it didn’t matter one bit to any of his supporters.

Here’s exactly what’ll happen. Massive tax cuts for the rich and corps. Mid class will get a small one to distract. The mid class worker will think he is fighting for them b/c they get an extra $40 in their paychecks. National debt & deficits skyrocket

@SPBMcKenna I do not buy that argument. White people voted for Trump bc they would NOT vote for a black woman PERIOD!

The fact is that MAGA conned voters that an excellent economy (full employment, inflation near 2%, record stock indices) was bad. Now watch as Trump’s inevitable decimation of the economy is twisted as good.

WOW. NBC’s Chuck Todd succinctly in two and a half minutes describes The Alignment in real time to viewers with the new Trump coalition adding working class Hispanics with a focus on the economy and education, not “Latinx”: Todd: Iowa pollster Ann Selzer “thought she found something with...independent women...I don’t know if it’s enough to make up for the loss of voters of color that have — clearly — I mean, that is — that continues, to me, to be the big story of the night is the shift among Hispanics. Look, Hispanic voters are swing voters and I think, you know, what's interesting here it is the Republican Party treated them the same way they treated white, working class voters. They courted them the same they treated white, working class voters. The Democratic Party has spent a lot of time treating it as an identity group. And, you know, whether it's latinx, which sort of fell flat and so, there’s been a lot of hand-wringing inside Democratic circles. A real split like, you know, it was a total misread sort of by the coastal strategists when it comes to how to target working class voters of color. And I think we’re starting to see sort of a working class coalition start to drift to the right. You know, before, Donald Trump had working class whites. Now? He’s adding working class Hispanics and working class — not necessary seeing evidence of working class African Americans — but adding working class Hispanics. That becomes a very durable majority...It doesn’t matter your ethnicity. It matters your education...Latino voters, in many ways, same — are driven by the same issues and there’s one issue in particular actually that Republicans align closer with Latino — or Latino voters align with conservative — with conservative party and that's school choice. And that has been -- and you can't help but wonder both Florida and Texas has been aggressive about expanding school choice. Where have Republicans made the greatest gains amongst Hispanic voters? Florida and Texas. So, education and economy, those issues — bread and butter issues and that is how they talk to them. Not saying Democrats weren't, but for the sort of cultural issues don't play as well with Hispanic voters as they may with college-educated whites or even African Americans.”
