What he says may sound appealing and logical to the masses, but it is fundamentally wrong. Trump has no jurisdiction over Google’s operations in India. His executive authority ends at US’s borders. He cannot order Google to shut down in a sovereign nation. Google is a private corporation accountable to its shareholders. Exiting India, the world’s second-largest internet market, would slash revenue, tank stock value, trigger shareholder revolts, invite lawsuits, and destabilize the company itself. Forcing a US company out of India would spark a trade and diplomatic crisis. India could hit back at Amazon, Apple, and Meta while boosting EU or local tech, and Trump will spend his presidency fighting lawsuits from tech giants and their shareholders.
