More than 200 campers and counselors from Camp Taum Sauk were rescued by helicopter after severe flooding swept through their Missouri campground. Gov. Mike Kehoe said eight helicopters were deployed to evacuate the children and camp staff after parts of the state were hit with 12 inches or more of rain in just a few hours. All of the children were safely reunited with their families. According to the Missouri Regent C Incident Command, there have been more than 350 total flood rescues across impacted regions as of Friday evening.

As part of Russia’s overnight attack on Kyiv, the most extensive damage to a residential area since the beginning of the full-scale invasion was inflicted. A total of 13 hectares (32 acres) of residential neighborhoods were affected in the town of Vyshneve, in the Kyiv region. Given the scale of the destruction, the Government will allocate funding from the reserve fund to support the community, including the restoration of homes damaged by the Russian attack. I discussed the need for immediate response measures with the President. Since the early hours of the morning, assistance centers have been operating in the city, where residents can receive emergency support and guidance on applying for compensation. More than 500 State Emergency Service personnel and over 400 police officers are working on the ground. I thank Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration Mykola Kalashnyk for their effective coordination. My sincere gratitude also goes to every rescuer, deminer, utility worker, and everyone involved in responding to the attack and helping the community recover.

#Pune: Kalpataru Exquisite Society Residents In Wakad Without Water Supply For Over 48 Hours; Lifts Not Functional Too Reported by Varad Bhatkhande Pune, 27th July 2024: The severe rainfall on 24th and 25th July caused widespread disruption in Pune and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area. Both cities faced severe flooding due to inadequate drainage systems, elevated water discharge from the dams, and rising water levels in the Mutha, Mula, and Pavana Rivers. Low-lying areas were particularly affected, with many residential societies reporting severe waterlogging in their underground basements. Residents of the Kalpataru Exquisite Society in Kaspate Wasti, Wakad, are still grappling with the flood situation two days after the rain. Frustration is growing as the newly built society faces issues such as a lack of parking, electricity, and operational lifts, along with an increase in mosquitoes. Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of drinking water, functional toilets, and operational lifts. With basements filled with knee-deep water, daily tasks are becoming increasingly difficult, especially for senior citizens and those with medical emergencies, as access to higher floors is challenging. Dattatraya Deshmukh, President of the Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Societies Federation, told Punekar News, "There are drainage problems. Other societies in our area, particularly those close to the Mula River in Wakad, have faced similar issues. Today we are leaving for North Bengal. I will be staying there for two days to see rescue and restoration works there. My Chief Secretary is accompanying me, DG of Police has already gone there. Police and administration have been doing rescue and restoration operations in all affected areas. Community kitchens have been opened, distressed people are being given all-out support. Tourists are being safely evacuated and where hotel accommodation is to be arranged, that will be done at our cost. North Bengal State Transport Corporation and our other transport organisations are mobilizing streams of special Volvo and long-distance buses for evacuating the stranded tourists. While death cannot be compensated, we shall give Rs 5 lakh to the families of each deceased, and a Special Homeguard' s job to a kin in each such family as a special gesture. I shall visit some areas in North Bengal today and tomorrow, and our administration will reach out all humanitarian help to all those affected by the flood in each place. If the Central Government did its job of dredging of the Ganga-Hugli river at several critical points, and if DVC did its desiltation works which it is not wilfully doing, if their dams and barrages were not so used in this manner against us, and if central government money was spent for the necessary public works in Bengal rather than squandering funds away in other unrelated pursuits, our people would have been spared of the man- made flood that we are facing in large tracts of North and South Bengal in this season. Our own Irrigation works and check dams etc have been useful in arresting the damages in many areas. We are there, always, every moment. This Is happening in Kerrville, Texas, the Guadalupe River, again, Kerr County and the surrounding Hill Country cities and counties. Just over a year ago the devastating floods took 119 lives in Kerr County alone, including all those beautiful young ladies at Camp Mystic. And now, it’s like the flooding is happening all over again. In some areas the water rose over 16 feet overnight. So far, one death has been reported. Governor Abbott has declared a state of disaster for 59 counties. Keep the Texas Hill Country in your prayers. Many people still haven’t recovered or gotten over the nightmare from a year ago, let alone having to deal with it again one year later. Stay strong my fellow Texans. 🙏 What are the chances that a 100 year flood hits two years in a row almost exactly a year a part?

Why is this happening? • Forests everywhere are a shield against excess flooding, both in reducing bare-ground heating as well as for blunting climate shock and slowing water cascades. Deforestation in Pakistan is driven by illegal logging, wildfires, and the conversion of forest land for agriculture, commercial development, and mushrooming housing schemes. How much timber is lost to mafias in KP and the north ? Pakistan has the highest deforestation rate in South Asia and only retains 5 % forest 🌳 cover. In the last 33 years, Pakistan’s forest cover has alarmingly shrunk by 18%, falling from 3.78 million hectares in 1992 to a mere 3.09 million hectares in 2025. This devastating loss is most acute in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s districts like Swat, Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, and Shangla, where the illegal timber mafia relentlessly exploits ancient pine and deodar forests despite government bans imposed since 2002 and 2017. Large swathes of the "Million Tree Tsunami" disappeared in a sea of local graft, with saplings struggling to survive rapacious officials, flooding, neglect and poor audits. Locals report that 30 to 40% of Swat’s forests have already been destroyed, with the potential for up to 70% loss if this continues unchecked. The timber mafias operate with impunity where they "sanitise" local timber as coming in from Afghanistan. Each year, Pakistan loses approximately 27,000 hectares of forest, a critical natural defense that once protected communities from floods, heatwaves, and droughts. • Systemic failures on early warning have worsened the impact: Pakistan received $188 million from the World Bank for modernizing weather forecasting and establishing a disaster response system. Yet, unlike Bangladesh and Nepal, Pakistan failed to implement this vital infrastructure and by 2022 when the loan grant was saved from reversion at PMD it had to be repurposed for emergency cash transfers via the Benazir Income Support Programme for saving lives. Climate finance remains a source of inaction even in places where the commitment is available. • Unchecked urban development on riverbeds and green areas has destroyed natural shields for disaster reduction. From the Margallahs to KP, this march of "development" continues to cut through parks, green zones and what used to be protected areas. Graft and greed have led to land use rules being changed overnight, while permissions for building on floodplains, natural storm drains and channels for water flow have added to the devastation of areas and communities that could have been protected. • Melting glaciers, intensified floods, erratic rainfall now imperil Pakistan’s economy, food security, and very survival. Adaptation plans for national action & provinces remain paper documents referenced to elicit donor funding, or to activate delayed inputs. Plastic pollution continues to block drains and storm water exits in a country where there is no public literacy on pollution, and the role played by non biodegradable plastics in aiding monsoon flooding. Disaster management remains reactive and deployed in crisis, while today it faces overstretch at all points when faced with ferocity of extreme weather. To avoid deeper catastrophe, Pakistan must urgently seek more climate financing but build credibility too. It must locally embrace afforestation, resilient infrastructure, planning processes that actually mainstream climate action as policy not theory, reduce river & drain pollution, build empowered EPAs, support renewable energy. #ClimateActionNow
