David does his best to explain tariffs in a simple way, but I’m skeptical that disengaged/low-information voters will grasp what he’s saying. I’ve read articles about the semi-literacy of Americans and how Trump’s rhetoric appeals to that; I’m just wondering if those inclined to consider David’s argument will even comprehend it. I can easily imagine an undecided voter watching this and brushing it off as elitist hogwash— even though it’s definitely not. What’s the remedy?

You all are narrowly describing tariffs as if you’re the one confused. You also disregard the communication style of Trump. Of course there may be a temporary increase of price on goods but the intent on tariffs is to discourage China from dumping cheaper goods, level the playing field, create local employment, raise US revenue, strengthen nation security, boost domestic industries, and secure middle class jobs. This “clip” is nothing more than shortsighted propaganda against Trump. It’s not a complete explanation and I also find it hilarious you this Trump doesn’t understand tariffs. Trump is not a globalist. Free trade was needed to boost other war torn nation’s economies from WW2. The US middle class has been suffering it’s time to level the playing field for long term once again. And you said it with such confidence.

Is Trump is confused. He might be, but I don't think the people around him are. Tariffs are a sneaky way to raise taxes while pretending that he's cutting taxes. He can cut taxes on the rich while imposing a regressive tax and being applauded for it by the people being harmed.

You missed a part of this argument, the American businesses that pay the extra then recoup those fees from Americans by increasing the price of their imported goods

Yes, the American consumer ultimately pays for tariffs But what it does is incentivize US companies to buy products from US companies When used strategically on certain countries/products it protects our supply chain Your overly simplistic view belies your lack of knowledge

It is incredible how much of this stuff is still not known by people. That it is still not known by trump tells us 3 things: 1 that he is an incredibly stupid man 2 that he doesn’t care enough to even learn the basics of the job 3 that he is surrounded by imbeciles and yes men

Of course David is right. It should also be added that China may export fewer of certain goods to the USA as a result of the tariffs. That would be the "punishment".
