Whether they were running or whatever they were doing. How did how could that happen? They're asking that question ... They're also telling me that a uniformed division officer who works - that's a division of the Secret Service that often works security sort of on that outer perimeter that a uniformed division officer was actually struck by some sort of shot in his vest. Now, I want to emphasize that's one source."

Again, I'm Jeff Carroll, Interim Chief of Police for the Metropolitan Police Department. This afternoon, this evening, members of the United States Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department were here at the Washington Hotel for a site detail for the Correspondence Centre. As the Mayor mentioned, at approximately 8.36 tonight, an individual charged a U.S. Secret Service checkpoint here in the lobby area of the hotel. He was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. As he ran through that checkpoint, members of law enforcement from the United States Secret Service intercepted that individual. This is a very preliminary investigation at this point. We do know that law enforcement exchanged gunfire with the individual. That young officer did some outstanding work by staying in the fight after he was wounded and the supervisor did a great job by telling him not to say anything until after he's been treated. I hope he made a complete recovery and is back out on the street....
