BMW M5, E28. The first M5. Hand-assembled by BMW Motorsport in Garching, not built like a normal 5 Series. Powered by a 3.5L straight-six derived from the BMW M1’s engine. 282 hp and 5-speed manual only. At the time, it was faster than many sports cars like Ferrari 328. And it didn’t even look the part with subtle M badges on the exterior. From the outside, it could pass as a normal 5 Series. That’s what made it different and it was the beginning of a new segment of sleeper super saloons. Nothing really competed with it at the time. Everything that came after followed this.

The E46 M3 GTR exists because BMW Motorsport needed an engine that did not exist. The P60B40 V8 was developed specifically to homologate the car for racing, and it never appeared in any other BMW road model. It was compact, lightweight and built for sustained high-rpm use rather than everyday refinement. This engine was not a variant of something else. It was a purpose-built solution to a single problem, to BEAT PORSCHE. That is why it disappeared once the problem disappeared. The GTR did not create a new direction for BMW. It marked a moment when the brand allowed motorsport to override normal product logic completely.

I drove Tesla for the first time; I felt happy like a child for the first 10 minutes, and was totally disappointed the rest of the ride The autopilot feature is not available in the EU, but even the lane-control works extremely badly Tesla didn't recognize road works and almost crushed me into a barrier Then it went completely crazy on a temporary orange lane and started wiggling around The assistant consistently missed lanes and ignored speed limit signs, so I had to disable the assistant and drive manually I drove an electric BMW i4 before, and it had a much better cruise control and assistant (it boggles my mind that BMW kicked Tesla's ass in software) With BMW, I never had to touch the gas pedal and drove the car just using cruise control and speed limit assistant You could also set a speed limit, and even if you pressed full gas, it never crossed, which was handy in a city Tesla is still an insane product, the interior and exterior design are amazing, but it feels like an app with an amazing frontend and a very poor backend (at least in the EU) Driving gave me a lot of motivation to make more $$$, and I will still probably get a Tesla, and not a BMW bz BMW is a car for boomers

When performance SUVs started to become a trend, BMW built this V8 monster in response to ML55. When BMW launched the X5 in 1999, it invented the idea of the “Sport Activity Vehicle.” But in 2004, they went one step further with the 4.8is. Under the bonnet sat a naturally aspirated N62 V8 making 360 HP which is in the facelifted model in place of the older M62, paired with sport suspension, unique styling, and massive 20-inch wheels. It was one of the first SUVs that could actually handle twisty roads better than the average bloated and slower lumps. The 4.8is came 6 years after AMG and M performance SUVs became mainstream as of E70 X5M. It paved the way for the X5 M and every other high-performance SUV that followed.
