This brings a lot of substance to the saying “They can smell your fear!” I wonder if sadists and sociopaths, or anyone else who thrives on the fears of others, I wonder if they are unknowingly seeking out (or addicted to) a “chemical” fix like other substance dependant addicts?

I 100% think that animals can smell fear. This is why dogs always react poorly to people who are scared of dogs.

oooh, this explains why women get stuck in cycles with the same toxic men. If fear or anxiety is their emotional baseline, the men's familiar stress signals (pheromones) feel (smell) like “chemistry.” The nervous system attaches to the familiar - what's 'safe'.

This has been known for decades. Natives of a primitive tribe in Africa were never bitten by a particularly deadly snake, while everyone else was, invariably, bitten and killed. The natives claimed it was because of a 'magic stone' they wore that the witch doctor had given them that would protect them. Turns out that their belief in the power of this stone to protect them kept them from issuing the smell of fear, which was what the snake responded to.

Me doing the smell test

That’s wild

I would think it’s the adrenaline that they smelled. 🤷🏻♀️ But interesting just the same.

alternatively, appreciate the science. Apocrine glands don't play a major role in thermoregulation but are linked to the body's fight-or-flight response. Fear sweat, mainly involves apocrine glands, which are concentrated in areas like the armpits, groin, and scalp. These glands are triggered by emotional stress, anxiety, or fear rather than temperature. Exercise sweat primarily comes from eccrine glands, which are distributed across most of your body (e.g., forehead, palms, soles, and back). These glands activate in response to heat or physical exertion to help regulate body temperature through cooling.

Why is she overly animated? Always makes me suspicious. She isn’t talking to children. Or does she think she is?

Why would I fear someone who went skydiving? 👆🏼

I know dogs can do it already!!!

So much going on that science does not yet recognize. Definitely always trust your gut.

I also intuitively believe that - fits with all the neuroscience I know too - still be good to know the specific "gross" study?

It’s because we’re animals.

The basis of "street smarts"? I grew up in a tough town. I knew/could sense when I needed to disappear from a scene. ot just smell. All my senses were saying, "Flee."

Love these kinds of posts, keep them coming.

@vvanedwards I wonder how universal this is. I genuinely think I would produce more fear in treadmill sweat than skydiving sweat. I could go to skydiving all day but be repulsed by the notion of strenuous exercise.

Pheromones. Walk in hell, smell like heaven.

What was old is new again. That's how we were taught to respond to dogs we didn't know, show & do not fear. If you do show fear, they are more likely to attack. Makes sense they smell the fear coming out of your pores.

If its so interesting, scientific;why the background drama movie music?

More examples…

Do psychopaths smell your fear?

wait - someone spent how much money to 'officially' learn what centuries of being around large or dangerous animals had already taught us?

That was gross?!

So women can smell weak men.

@physicsgeek Don’t surround yourself around pussies

@grok is that a real study?

I wouldn't be surprised if our government/military hasn't utilized this yet as well. Hell, they probably did during the plandemic

*dogs at the vet*

Anyone around farm animals can also tell the difference between animal manure smells and the smell of the same animal if you’re behind a livestock truck (manure when they’re stressed and scared). It always makes me sad for them.

I would like to heard @DrAllyLouks on this topic!

Body is the brain for reaction, brain is the body for response

Has @DrAllyLouks been tagged yet?

Like the concept or not we are all still animals. Humans like to think they are beyond animal instinct because they have "evolved" and are "domesticated" but Nope!

Pheromones we've been known about this forever

@DrAllyLouks thoughts??
