Most American evangelicals call Catholics demon worshippers too though. Nothing to do with Latin American Catholicism v non-Latin American Catholics. They say the same thing about the Irish traditions, Italians, etc.

Slightly off topic, but many alters in Hindu homes include a picture of Jesus too along with Hindu deities. (My childhood home did.) He is revered as a legiimate (but misunderstood) spiritual teacher. And, no, this does not mean they want to convert to Christianity.
