Trying to have a conversation with someone who doesn’t ask questions

I had a date like this many years ago. Once I realised she was pathologically opposed to asking questions, I played a game where I said things like “something similar happened to me, but much much worse…” to see if she would follow up with a question. She didn’t.

My friend @MastonDiana and I follow the 5 Question Rule. If after 5 questions the person has asked you nothing in return, fall silent and say nothing more. It's the best way to deal with those who don't know the rules.

I guess I assume if you want to share stuff, you will? I shouldn’t have to force conversation to keep YOU comfortable. People like this come off as someone who can’t handle “awkward silence”, I promise it’s possible for two humans to exist in a space without constant conversation

I just have no idea what to ask <:( Like im interested in ur life but I need you to bounce off of what im saying, I don't do well with the q and a type of conversation.

I wonder if this could be an autism thing, cuz i usually don't care to ask questions but it's not because i hate anyone it's because the type of questions you're expected to ask are really boring. I prefer asking weird comedic hypotheticals but most people don't vibe with those

I was like this years ago. I just thought others would find me annoying or even randomly blow up on me if I talk too much because that's how I was treated as a kid. So I just keep quiet to be safe

I just figure if someone wants to tell me something, they will.

Various family members at Xmas - didn’t ask a single thing about my new job or where I’d been on holiday, but happily talked about their medical conditions and their own holidays to places they knew I’d never been. I could have done anything and they wouldn’t have cared!
