Unfortunately, Mayor Lurie is trying to block even a single vote to even occur on the Affordable Groceries Act ballot measure. This is an extreme break of protocol. And just bad governance. Ballot measures have historically always been allowed at least a floor vote at the Board of Supervisors. But yesterday Budget Chair Chan unscheduled the hearing to vote on the ballot measure, apparently under the direction of Mayor Lurie. And after lobbying from corporations like Amazon. Even if you disagree with the policy, this type of backroom deals is what Mayor Lurie and I both campaigned against. Ballot measures should be allowed an up/down vote. To deny debate, is against the principles of democracy. On Tuesday July 14, I will be introducing a motion asking Board President Mandelman to invoke Rule 3.38 to call a committee of whole, and allow the actual democratic process to continue.

The origins of these two lows are from the Hawaiian islands and the Marshall islands being induced by the continuous warming of the Pacific. This is the storm that’s going to be heading into Central and Southern California no later than Christmas Eve through December 28. So this is the second cycle since the mid-November storms that brought well over 7 to 14 inches of rain across San Luis Obispo down to Los Angeles counties however this is another warm base system. As of right now snow levels will be above 8,000 feet if not higher so this unfortunately will cause more problems for possible flooding concerns because of the moisture tap coming in off the Hawaiian islands and also the Marshall Islands as well. More details are still emerging on the developing weather situation, the exact timing and intensities are being looked at either on late Christmas Eve or on Christmas day for the main brunt of the storm at this present time. It’s still being scrutinized very closely for Northern California timing and duration. The rainfall will start as early as December 22 or 23 as an additional third embedded impulse will come directly as a very low southern latitude axis system in Southern California combination with a 150 knot strong jet streak into Santa Barbara to San Diego counties late Christmas day. YNW Melly will no longer go to trial for witness tampering after prosecutors dropped the charges. The Florida rapper's trial was scheduled to start on Wednesday (Jan. 21). However, during a hearing on Tuesday (Jan. 20), prosecutors decided to drop the case. Melly's attorneys, Drew Findling and Carol Haughwout, have released the following statement to XXL about the update in the case. "On behalf of Jamell Demons, we welcome the dismissal of the alleged tampering and gang-related charges in court this morning," the statement reads. "As his newly retained legal team, it became immediately apparent to us that no crimes had occurred. Unfortunately, for 652 days while these charges were pending, the State did not reach the same conclusion until the cusp of trial." The statement continues: "We now look forward to seeking Mr. Demons’ release from custody, where he has been held under extraordinarily restrictive conditions for far too long based on premises the State has now abandoned. His release will allow him to fully and meaningfully participate in preparing his defense in the forthcoming proceedings, which we intend to litigate vigorously." Melly has been behind bars since 2019, when he was charged with double-murder in connection with the killings of his childhood friends Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams in October of 2018. His first trial ended in a mistrial in 2023. However, prosecutors decided to retry the case. In October of 2023, Melly was charged with witness tampering and accused of convincing his ex-girlfriend, Mariah Hamilton, and her mother, Felicia Holmes, not to testify in the first trial. Melly's double-murder retrial is scheduled for January of 2027.
