Çin kaynakları, Xiongnu dilinin Dingling (丁零) ve Tiele (铁勒)/Gaoche(高车) dilleriyle akrabalık ilişkisi taşıdığını belirtir. Tiele topluluklarının Türkçe konuştuğu bilindiğine göre, bu durum Xiongnu dilinin de Türkçe olduğu anlamına gelir.

Having Turkic tribal ancestry does not make them 'Turkish' kings. Rulers like Nader Shah and Shah Abbas ruled as Shahanshah of Iran, used Persian as their official language, and spent their entire lives fighting against the Ottoman Turks to protect Iranian soil. Calling them Turkish is like calling the British Royal Family 'German' just because of their genetics. They lived, ruled, and died as protectors of Persian civilization. You cannot claim the history of a nation your ancestors fought to destroy.
