Turks didn‘t colonize land JUST in order to exploit its resources or labor. That would be pure colonialism. Turks CONQUERED land in order to annex and rule it, and stayed there. Nobody did it like the Turks, from Mongolia to Hungary and from Tunisia to India.

Turks tend to think for some reason, that they defeated the Byzantine Empire at its peak. In reality it was an empire suffering from the effects of the 4th crusade. Even then they struggled with capturing an "empire", which was just the city of Constantinople and nothing more.
