Appreciate you brother! 🙏 I’m definitely not stopping, just going to keep experimenting, building, and pushing this thing further.

Cool! How did it rig the model, do you use an already made skeleton? And what about weights? Defo it has some problem (tested the Body Shot Taken) but for sure it's improving! (in my toolings I'm trying UniRig and Make-It-Animatable and they both can't produce perfect weighting that I can properly animate with Kimodo)

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

Thanks for testing it and for the detailed feedback! 🙏 For the current experiment, I’m using a reference GLB to extract the skeleton/specs and then generating the rigging setup in code. The weights are also generated as part of the pipeline, I’m not using a manually authored skeleton + hand-painted weights. And yeah, Body Shot Taken definitely exposes some weighting/rigging issues. That’s actually one of the areas I’m actively experimenting with right now. UniRig and Make-It-Animatable are interesting comparisons. Perfect weighting that works reliably across arbitrary characters is still a really hard problem. Animation/rigging is still on my roadmap, so this is very much an early experiment. I’m hoping to push this much further in the next iterations. 🔥

Pipeline is impressive. The thing that decides whether it lands for players is what the GLB weighs after reconstruction. Browser games live or die on time to first interaction, and a generated mesh will happily out-detail what a phone can download. Is there a decimation step?

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

Exactly. And you can absolutely control the resolution too. In some of my earlier showcases, I added High / Medium / Low options to reduce the triangle count depending on the target. For a real production setup, you could even make it adaptive based on the device e.g. mobile → Low, desktop → Medium/High, or inspect the device specs and choose automatically. So the pipeline can be tuned for the actual target hardware rather than always shipping the highest-detail mesh. 🔥

Image to playable 3D in the browser is huge for web games. Building one with Remie right now to ship on Poki/Crazy Games.

Profilbild von Nick

That’s awesome! Image → playable 3D is exactly the direction I’m pushing img2threejs toward. Would love to see what you’re building for Poki/Crazy Games when it’s ready. 🚀

Turning a single 2D image into an animated, fully rigged 3D boxer with physics sweat particles running on pure Three.js without ever opening Blender is pure dark magic

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

Thanks, Appreciate it! The wild part is that the whole thing is generated directly as Three.js code, no Blender in the workflow. Still a lot to improve, but it’s getting there.

LMAO fair roast 😂 v1.5 is mainly about creating the character, animation is still on the roadmap. I’m just experimenting with it early. According to the roadmap, I wasn’t even supposed to be doing this yet Still plenty of room to cook, its 1.8 🔥

Profilbild von zENKI

that model is horrible for 100k, if you are going to showcase this webapp, don't use a boxing character of all characters 🤣 use a walking old man or something just wasting your claude credits brother🤣nobody in their right mind is using that model and animation brother, sloppy

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

I get what you mean, brother 😂 But every successful project starts by finding its failure points. That’s exactly why I don’t hide my older showcases, even when they’re fucking rough. I use these showcases to document the process of improving img2threejs. Every showcase is an iteration, and every iteration gets better. Some people look at the improvement. Others only look at what’s still broken. Either way, I’m gonna keep cooking. 🙏

Skipping Blender entirely for a pure TypeScript output is a massive workflow win for web developers.

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

Exactly! That’s the goal - make 3D assets feel more like code that web developers can inspect, modify, and ship directly. ❤️ What kind of 3D workflow would you want to replace Blender for?

turning a 2D image into a 3D character in-browser is a huge leap for web tech

Thank you, seriously. It means a lot to hear that. I’ve put a huge amount of time into pushing this idea forward, so seeing people recognize what it could mean for web technology is incredibly motivating. There’s still a lot I want to build and improve, but comments like this genuinely keep me going. ❤️

Wowww, That’s awesome! 🔥 I can already see how useful this could be for punching tutorials. And honestly, don’t worry about knowing how yet, that’s exactly the kind of use case I want img2threejs to enable. Just give it a try and let me know where you get stuck. I’d love to see what you build with it!

Is it possibleto import the 3D model in godot after that ?

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

Yep! Since the output is based on a standard GLB/Three.js workflow, you can use the generated 3D assets in Godot as well. Are you thinking about importing the character with the rig + animations too, or mainly the 3D model?

Profilbild von Kikitok
Kikitokvor 2 Monaten

Nice! Well if i can import the 3D model to begin with i will be happy. I am still a beginner so i don't know yet for the rig+animations, i am working on my first 3D project

41 bones and physics sweat particles, meanwhile my portfolio site still has a spinning cube from 2019

😂 Then it’s definitely time to upgrade that cube. Try img2threejs and make yourself a custom 3D mascot or a whole new outfit for your site. You might as well give that 2019 portfolio a proper 2026 upgrade.

Are the rigging and animations handled by something like meshy?

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

The rigging itself can be done by platforms like Meshy, but this is where things can get frustrating, especially with mesh issues that cause parts of the character to deform, stretch, or break during animation. That’s one of the things img2threejs is trying to handle. It can take the generated GLB and help clean up/work around those mesh issues so the rigging and animations behave properly. Have you run into those deformation issues with Meshy or similar tools?

the interesting part for me isnt games, its product pages. one product photo turned into something you can rotate would kill half of what agencies charge for 3d assets

Profilbild von Nick
Nickvor 2 Monaten

Exactly. Product visualization is one of the areas I’m most interested in too. If you can go from a single product image → interactive 3D asset → directly usable on a web page, without the traditional 3D production pipeline, that could seriously change the economics of product pages. That’s one of the directions I want to push img2threejs toward.

that image to 3D pipeline is a cool direction for web experiences. i'd test the source image in krea too since you can turn an image into a 3D object and rotate it before rendering.
