Turns out teaching the AI Coding Agents what's your preferred way of implementation(a.k.a Claude Skills) gives much better results. 😇 Took all the guidelines from my "Spring Application Architecture Design Patterns" samples and created file and asked Claude to generate a new application. Claude followed most of those patterns... as expected 😍 Earlier I used to Vibe Code and then spend some time unvibing(cleaning up) the generated code. I've been working with github copilot using Claude 4.5 telling it to follow the guidelines of Clean Code and Pragmatic Programmer producing code with tests which is understandable both by agents and humans - with a few pre commit actions. Seems working fairly OK and improving

This is exactly the workflow that makes a huge difference. I've found that encoding architectural patterns and naming conventions into these skills files cuts down on the back-and-forth significantly. Do you version control your skills files alongside the project, or keep them separate?

I used to keep these guidelines along with project in or .junie/guidelines.md files. But I am thinking of creating a Claude Skill with all these guidelines as a separate repo so that I can install it on Claude and don't have to copy-paste in every project.

I too don't generate new projects using AI. For Spring Boot I use progeny CLI ( The file( is a collection of guidelines I want Claude to follow when I ask it to implement a feature. My understanding of Clade Skills is it can be Guidelines+Tools. Instead of stuffing all the guidelines in I think making it a skill is better. What do you think of this approach?

I have specific skills. Like Vaadin-expert or jOOQ-dev. So I try to make them as specific as possible
