There’s a popular myth that Harrison Ford deliberately read the studio forced narration badly to sabotage it, but Ford has actually denied that directly. He says he was handed pages by a writer he’d never met, given zero input, and just read it as written since arguing had never worked before. It was bad because it was genuinely bad writing, not because he was tanking it on purpose. The studio also tacked on a happier ending using leftover aerial forest footage that Stanley Kubrick’s crew shot for The Shining and never used.

The one thing Blade Runner got right about 2019 was that every available surface would be an advertisement. Flying cars, off-world colonies and replicants are all still pending.

This is a classic piece of film history. Blade Runner still has such a unique look and atmosphere.
