Twenty five years ago today, The Iron Giant was released. Easily the best-animated film Warner Bros has ever put out, this film soars thanks to its great themes, amazing animation, well-written characters, and also one of the emotionally moving finales ever. A masterpiece.

And of course, Warner Bros had no idea how to market it so it died at the box office(even though I remember seeing this and many other gems in theaters) But thanks to the film itself, Brad Bird and the fans: the film is a true masterpiece

I would include these other two masterpieces in spite of their own box office flops.

It's a shame that it was absolutely destroyed in the box office. Truly this is a shining example of peak art being ruined by horrible marketing.

Warner Bros really dropped the ball in not promoting this film enough.. Just the fact it was Brad Bird's debut blows my mind to this day..! I 110% Agree...One of the best animated films every made, and one of many Beacons of my Childhood..!

It’s an absolute crime that this movie did not get a sequel since it sets it up in the end

What I adore most about this iconic sacrifice scene is the Giant's goodbye subtle parallel with Hogarth saying goodbye to his father who obviously died, during the war time period its story takes place in. It's why Hogarth had such a wise understanding about dying not being bad.

Brad Bird was inspired to make it after his sister lost her life to gun violence, and he asked himself: What if a gun had a soul and didn't want to be a weapon

"Superman". One simple word but not a dry eye in the house. A underrated film for sure.
