Before Jimmy Carter got duped by the Ayatollah, Iran was our ally. There was no Islamist regime in Iran. There was no hostage crisis. There was no Hezbollah in Lebanon. There were no Houthis in Yemen. Don't wag your finger at us, honey ~ take some credit.

Why James Fallows? Carter admin? Maybe, I don’t know, someone who was near/in the West Wing during 9/11 has something of more value to say?

This is correct. So well expressed. I tried to retweet it but it doesn't show upon the timeline. Imagine if you are 25 right now, the event is history. And for teens as well. I think we all cannot believe it has been 25 years since and no. Nothing was the same after that.
