In 2003 he and his wife decided they wanted a slower life for their two young kids. They sold their home and bought a small Post Office branch in Bridlington, on the seafront. Within a year the dream job turned into a nightmare. His accounts started showing losses that made no sense. So he did the responsible thing and called the Horizon helpline. Then he called it again. And again. 91 times in 12 weeks, begging someone to explain where the money was going. Nobody could tell him. The Post Office's answer to being told 91 times that their own system was broken was to audit him, suspend him, and demand he pay back 25,000 pounds he never touched. Castleton had no money left for a lawyer so he represented himself in the High Court, alone, against an organisation with a government sized legal budget. He lost. The Post Office then chased him for 321,000 pounds in legal costs and bankrupted him. That is the reward for reporting a fault 91 times. Bankruptcy. The fallout went well beyond the shop. His kids were bullied at school. His daughter was spat at because people in town assumed her dad was a thief. His wife's health suffered under the strain. All because a computer system got the maths wrong and nobody at the top wanted to admit it. In 2019 Castleton was one of over 550 former postmasters who won a group settlement of 58 million pounds. Bernie Bentick was a consultant obstetrician at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) for nearly 30 years. From 2009, he was raising concerns with managers about understaffing and a toxic culture. He wrote to senior management repeatedly. He told them babies were at risk. He told them the culture was broken. They kept taking notes. They kept doing nothing. He was the first former staff member to speak openly about what was happening inside the Trust. While families were fighting from outside for answers, Bentick was fighting from the inside. He told BBC Panorama he believed management responded to problems by trying to preserve the reputation of the organisation rather than do anything practical. Management, he said, were mostly concerned with activity, the number of patients seen and procedures performed, over patient safety. Throughput over lives. A very modern NHS priority. His calls for investigation were ignored by the Care Quality Commission Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England. The CQC visited. The CQC noted. The CQC filed a report saying the Trust "requires improvement" and moved on. More than 1,800 cases of potentially avoidable harm were eventually reviewed by the inquiry. Most occurred between 2000 and 2019. The Ockenden Review confirmed what Bentick had been saying for over a decade. 201 babies died who could have survived. The Trust issued a statement taking "full responsibility" and offering "sincere apologies." As you do, twenty years later. Bernie Bentick retired in 2020, went into local politics, and became Mayor of Shrewsbury in 2026. The people who ignored him are long gone, comfortably pensioned off, utterly unaccountable. From 2009, he was raising concerns with managers about understaffing and a toxic culture. He wrote to senior management repeatedly. He told them babies were at risk. He told them the culture was broken. They kept taking notes. They kept doing nothing. He was the first former staff member to speak openly about what was happening inside the Trust. While families were fighting from outside for answers, Bentick was fighting from the inside. He told BBC Panorama he believed management responded to problems by trying to preserve the reputation of the organisation rather than do anything practical. Management, he said, were mostly concerned with activity, the number of patients seen and procedures performed, over patient safety. Throughput over lives. A very modern NHS priority. His calls for investigation were ignored by the Care Quality Commission Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England. The CQC visited. The CQC noted. The CQC filed a report saying the Trust "requires improvement" and moved on. More than 1,800 cases of potentially avoidable harm were eventually reviewed by the inquiry. Most occurred between 2000 and 2019. The Ockenden Review confirmed what Bentick had been saying for over a decade. 201 babies died who could have survived. The Trust issued a statement taking "full responsibility" and offering "sincere apologies." As you do, twenty years later. Bernie Bentick retired in 2020, went into local politics, and became Mayor of Shrewsbury in 2026. The people who ignored him are long gone, comfortably pensioned off, utterly unaccountable. Davies’ conceit with Tip Toe is to persuade the audience to sympathise with Leo, who is drawn into conflict with his straight neighbour and family, including the teenage son. His immaturity attracts him to 16-year-old George, and to lust after men decades younger than himself throughout the series. (Davies, incidentally, is 63 and dating a 27-year-old who’s a dead ringer for 15-year-old schoolboy Nathan in Queer as Folk…) In this excerpt from a video posted to YouTube on 4 June, Davies is bemused that anyone could be remotely concerned for children’s lives. To him, anyone who suggests puberty blockers are dangerous, that kids are too young to consent to medical procedures, or are being ideologically groomed by LGBTQ+ activists at school and on TV must, therefore, be politically motivated. Not unlike the contemptuous response of politicians towards those who speak up for rape gang victims, or the attempted beheading of a man in Belfast, reported as a “minor incident” by the BBC. Their response is always to blame Nigel Farage, or to attack Elon Musk and anyone who wants to talk about it. Similarly, Davies’ response to those who call out the ideological grooming and transing of children is to… attack Elon Musk and call for X to be shut down. Davies runs an account on Instagram which he is able to control, word for word, yet rages against the one platform he can’t: “X is a hate platform owned by a megalomaniac who is pushing ill on many of us!” he fumed recently. Yet it was X that exposed the UK rape gangs scandal globally and the horrific murder of Harry Nowak, and pushed for the bodycam footage to be released — without which Harry would likely have been forever remembered as a racist rather than a victim of the worst example of DEI; the new religion of the left which Davies, the BBC and the left bow down to. Davies’ visceral hatred of X was no doubt amplified when the US ‘WPATH – The World Professional Association for Transgender Health – Files’ and UK’s own Cass Report into NHS England gender identity services for children and young people were published in March and April 2024 respectively — a month before the global premiere of Ncuti Gatwa’s first globally streamed season of Doctor Who on Disney+. It was revealed in November 2025 that LGBTQ+ activists within the BBC and other international news organisations like CNN censored coverage of the WPATH Files entirely, despite its information being used by institutions globally, including the NHS.
