I am at #Baruipur, and one thing is unmistakably clear: the overwhelming anger of the locals is directed not entirely at the administration, but largely at sections of the media. No one said anything against the govt but questioned as why a section of main stream liability media is so touchy and peddling lies or downplaying the incident. People are, as is often the case, upset with the police. But what has truly hurt them is how they believe parts of the media have failed them. Many here say the incident was not reported promptly. When it finally was, they feel some reports reduced the tragedy to "a girl drowned," while others appeared dismissive of the allegations of rape and murder. Their grievance is that instead of amplifying their demand for justice, some channels misrepresented them - tried making it communal. This video captures that sentiment. There is no violence, no road blockade today. Police are managing law and order, armed central forces are there. Protesters are also there in huge number but on the other side of the road. A couple of television channels arrived, and residents gathered to stop them, raising slogans demanding justice. Their message was simple: "We want justice. We want the truth to be heard. Don't portray us as the villains." Yes - those same LIABILITY MEDIA I, too, was stopped initially. But once people realised I was from digital media, I was allowed to report freely, just like several other independent journalists. I was able to speak to residents and even meet the victim's family. Whether one agrees with them or not, one thing is beyond doubt: many people here feel they have been let down by sections of the media when they expected their voices to be heard. Angry people also often fail to understand that most of the times the reporters are not at fault. Their editors are but the wrath is always borne by ground level reporters. #Bengal

Breaking: man with “red face, devil eyes, and hulk-style clenched fists” on drugs smashes door, breaks into home near Liberty Park in Salt Lake City exclaiming “who am I here to save and who am I here to kill?” at 9:30 pm last night. Resident is able to get criminal to leave and he was apprehended by SLPD. Police / media refusing to release criminal’s name. Only that he is a 40yo male. I could not find him listed on the jail roster. It is ill-advised and extremely risky to verbally attempt to deescalate a criminal on drugs who breaks into your home. I once stood on the ground where Charlie Kirk was murdered, watching Utah Valley University (UVU) erupt into chaos over an invited political speaker. In 2004, UVU (then UVSC) invited liberal filmmaker Michael Moore to speak 2 weeks before election day. Moore had just released "Fahrenheit 9/11", a documentary which aggressively criticized incumbent President George W Bush. So you can imagine the outrage to Moore's invitation to speak in the heart of a solid red county in a solid red state. The day that Moore's appearance was announced, I grabbed my video camera and drove to UVU to document the fallout. I ended up filming, nonstop, for months. Orem, Utah - a quiet Mormon town nicknamed "Family City USA" - was ignited with rage. There were death threats, bribes, lawsuits, and furious people on both sides screaming at each other. Wealthy Mormons tried everything in their power to cancel Moore's appearance while Moore's supporters fought tooth and nail to make sure it happened. In the center of all this were the 2 UVU students who had invited Moore in the first place. They were targeted with threats and their lives became a living hell. Law enforcement suggested they wear bulletproof vests. They were also individually sued by a wealthy local conservative. Extremely stressful for 2 college kids. As I interviewed them, they laughed at the idea that their lives might in danger for inviting someone to speak at a university. It was completely foreign to them that blood would be shed or that fists (or even bullets) would fly. That seemed like utter madness, an impossibility. And it was the same for me, on the other side of the camera. The potential for violence was always in the back of my head, but not murder, not cold-blooded murder. Killing someone in the quaint town of Orem, UT simply because you disagreed with them politically? At the time, an alien invasion seemed more likely. Now, here I am 21 years later, watching an invited speaker at UVU get murdered while sharing their political beliefs. Charlie Kirk's blood spilled onto the same ground where I once stood, camera in hand, and thought, "No one's actually going to pull a trigger, are they?" Charlie's Kirk's blood spilled and I got an answer to my question. I am shocked and heartbroken. Because a vibrant life was violently snuffed out. And because I no longer recognize the place where I once stood, once spoke, once lived. My film "This Divided State" captured a microcosm of how America was at one point in time. We no longer live there.

I haven't had a minute to look at the media, but people are finding whole families in cars that are just charcoaled and fried. My best friend Michelle, her friend, her brother's family just... in the car. They find the car and they find mom and dad in the front seat and the three kids in the back. The other bad thing is that school was out that day that the fire raged through Lahaina so parents were at work and all the kids were at home so there's massive amounts of children who perished. We've been taking supplies. No one's been sleeping. ‌ We have three families in our home in Kihei. We're trying to open up a second home and now we're trying to get homes for people who have lost everything. The roads are crazy. It's hard, you know there's only one road going into Lahaina plus the backside and the backside's pretty dangerous. We got Ignite a Life up, helping as best we can. We spent the entire day taking care of our patients at the office at Maui Cardiology. ‌ At two o'clock we closed and we started shopping for folks. And we sent out three, three Suburbans and three other trucks full of supplies this morning through the Hawaiian Canoe Club. We're continuing to help. People are not sleeping on this side. Three fires broke out again yesterday in Hana Kauai, which is past Lahaina. The fire is still not contained up in Kula. But anyway. ‌ Anything that you guys want to donate we're happy to take donations and like I said ignited life always gives 100% of your donation we never take admin fees or anything and we want to just say thank you to everybody who's been Contacting us we appreciate your support and we love you and God bless everybody This is this is just really bad.
