Twitch isn't making Gen AI training *opt-in* because no one would voluntarily choose to opt in. Instead, they are offering an opt-out option.

if you know no one would opt in, then you know its a bad idea in the first place, so why add it, the logic is out the window

Hi y'all! Just did these in case people want to add them to their stream's overlays to "show" others that you have opted-out of GenAI training from Twitch (Also did this thinking of future raids to other channels as well!)

this whole stream is so funny. 3,200 people in chat all not liking this and the PR response of "50% of the general population loves using AI" is so tone deaf and hilarious (in a dystopian way).

Yes Mike, and why do you think nobody would opt-in? Is it, per chance, because very few people like this idea?

Of course noone would choose to opt in. It's as skeezy to be asked permission to train data learning models on people's work and personal information as it is to have that be the default standard. People are saying no because they don't want it. If you really cared, don't add it.

A personal opinion... I feel like Twitch used every bit of leverage they have to get an opt-out. If Amazon made the full call, as Minty says, the TOS already permits full AI training (and Minty knows it was being used that way; see attached screenshot from 404media's report yesterday). The headline is 'no one would opt-in,' which is very true and telling... So Twitch doesn't get credit for 'the extra step' of adding an opt-out cause a creator platform should do right by its creators... but I think it is worth noting. A similar thing happened a couple of years ago with Prime subs, where it sounded like Amazon wanted to hard-nerf the free Twitch Prime sub... but Twitch fought to keep it with only a slight nerf in payouts instead. Again, they don't get credit for it, but to me, back then, it was also worth noting.

Statement also says it "does NOT opt you out" from Twitch using your data for other AI purposes. Under Twitch Privacy Notice you agree to allowing use your channel for other AI features. Ads, marketing, sponsorship, 3rd party AI algorithms, AI based programs and a whole lot more.

what i find crazy is that there isn't even the veneer of any sort of incentive for staying opted in. it would be equally gross, but imagine if they actually compensated users for their participation in contributing to the training - that would at least be a different calculation

as a twitch VIEWER and chatter ONLY, my consent is being OVER RIDDEN and I'm not getting a notification if I enter a stream that is teaching gen ai. They sent out a notification to streamers because they want the people who don't like ai to opt out and be quiet about it.
