I was in Rocky Mountain House recently for a massive pro Alberta independence rally. Hundreds of people were waving Alberta flags and driving around town, and I found a small group of about seven pro-Canada counter protesters and decided to engage them. One man challenged me. He said that if Alberta independence loses, I should give up. I told him plainly that yes, if we lose, I will respect the will of the voters. Then I asked him the same question back. If Alberta wins, will you accept it? He reluctantly said yes, but the moment I pressed him on what percentage he would accept, he would not even engage with the argument. He would not clearly accept a majority. That tells you a lot. For too many on the pro-Canada side, this is not really about democracy. It is about imposing their will on Albertans who disagree with them, then using shame and fear to pressure us into silence. The second part of his argument was that the independence movement is hurting investment in Alberta. My answer was that Ottawa already did that and we have nothing to loose. For years, federal policy has blocked pipelines, restricted market access, and damaged confidence in Alberta’s future. Then, when Albertans finally start pushing back, we are told that we are the problem. He even claimed there is no tanker ban. That is factually false. Canada’s Oil Tanker Moratorium Act does restrict large crude oil and persistent-oil tankers from stopping, loading, or unloading at ports on BC’s north coast. The details matter, but the broader point stands: Ottawa has put real barriers in the way of Alberta getting its resources to market. His response was basically, if that is true, then why is Alberta still so rich and prosperous? My answer was simple: because we work hard, we have a lot going for us, and it takes a lot to sink us. But that does not prove Canada is working. It proves Alberta is strong enough to keep carrying a country that keeps dragging us down. “TRAITORS SHOULD BE HANGED.” That is what a Forever Canada counter-protester screeched at me at the Alberta Legislature today. She had been repeatedly screaming that Alberta independence supporters were “traitors,” so I walked over and asked the obvious question: What should happen to traitors? For a while she wouldn’t answer. I got insults, swearing and a middle finger instead. Then she finally said it: “Traitors should be hanged.” Think about what is happening here. We are peacefully advocating for a democratic referendum. Canadians are legally free to advocate constitutional change, and the Supreme Court has already established a constitutional process that would follow a clear referendum mandate for secession. You can oppose Alberta independence. You can campaign against us. You can vote to remain Canadian. But advocating political change through speeches, signs, rallies and ballots does not make someone a traitor. And when someone repeatedly calls peaceful political opponents “traitors” and then says traitors should be hanged, I think people should hear exactly what was said. This rhetoric matters, especially when independence supporters have already reported hostility and dangerous behavior at public events. Watch the exchange yourself. If you support forever Canada, is this the Canada you want to be a part of?

We had a frank conversation about Alberta independence, the United States, staying in Canada, and what kind of future he wants for his family. He told us he strongly supports Alberta independence and most of his friends do as well. He agreed to take an Alberta independence sign for his property. That matters. Because this movement grows one honest conversation at a time. One truck window at a time. One farm gate at a time. One highway property at a time. One Alberta flag at a time. If you live in rural Alberta, put up a sign. Put up an Alberta flag. Especially if your property is along a highway where thousands of people pass by and see it. But this needs to happen everywhere. At the Forever Canada rally in Red Deer, one of Thomas Lukaszuk’s people followed me through the crowd and said he was there to “protect” me. I wasn’t sure how to take that, so we joked about it a little. But then we talked about something serious. A few days earlier in Edmonton, a Forever Canada supporter attacked an Alberta independence supporter who was peacefully waving his flag on the side of the road. The man tried to rip the flag away and pushed him toward traffic. That could have ended very badly. We both agree that that kind of behavior is wrong, and the person responsible should be in jail. That matters. We can disagree about Alberta independence. We can debate equalization, immigration, pipelines, federal control, Ottawa, the constitution, and the future of this province. But political violence has no place in this debate. Peaceful Albertans have every right to wave a flag, support a referendum, ask questions, and advocate for Alberta independence without being assaulted or threatened. This video captures something people need to see. I was having a polite conversation with a reasonable man who supports staying in Canada. We disagreed, but we were talking respectfully. Meanwhile, from way across the field, another Forever Canadian apparently spotted me and made a straight line toward me, visibly angry. I never saw him coming. I was recording over my shoulder, so the camera could see what I couldn’t. He approached quickly from directly behind me, and just before he reached me, a random bystander saw what was happening and stepped between us. I’m extremely grateful that he did. The man approaching me was shouting that I wasn’t allowed in the park, that this was “his park,” that I wasn’t allowed to be there, and that I was being disrespectful. The bystander stood his ground, exchanged a few choice words with him, and eventually got him turned around. Watching the footage afterward was unsettling. From my perspective, this man appeared to be approaching me aggressively from behind, and I had absolutely no idea he was there. There is something revealing about the contrast in this video. The man I was actually interviewing supports remaining in Canada, yet we were able to have a civil and reasonable disagreement. In many ways, reasonable centrists probably agree with Alberta independence supporters about a great deal—right up until the question of actually becoming independent. Then there is another faction: people who seem to treat peaceful advocacy for Alberta independence as something that makes us enemies. That attitude has consequences. People publicly supporting Alberta independence have already faced aggressive confrontations. We have seen supporters shoved, threatened, and in one particularly disturbing incident, an older man was pushed toward traffic and could have been seriously hurt. I don’t go looking for confrontations. I would much rather talk to people. But I’m also not going to be intimidated out of peacefully expressing my political beliefs. And this is where the leadership of the Forever Canada movement needs to think very carefully about their rhetoric. When political leaders repeatedly throw around words like “traitor” and “treason” to describe Albertans participating in a peaceful, democratic and lawful political process, some unstable people are going to take those words literally. If you convince someone that his political opponent is genuinely a traitor, it becomes much easier for that person to convince himself that aggression is justified. That is an incredibly dangerous road to go down. Albertans advocating independence are operating within Canada’s legal and democratic system. We are talking, organizing, campaigning and trying to persuade our neighbors. That disagreement should be settled with arguments and ballots—not intimidation. The full conversation with the reasonable Forever Canadian I was speaking with will be released soon. But I wanted to publish this part first because people should see what happened behind me—and because I’m very grateful to the stranger who saw the situation developing and stepped in before I even knew what was happening.

I was at a massive Pro Independence rally in Rocky Mountain House and there was a small counter protest (7 people). One of the Forever Canada guys said Alberta independence supporters should not be using the poppy. Even if a veteran supports Alberta independence, thats wrong in his eyes! If you're a veteran tell me what you think. I’m not in the military, so I’m not going to pretend I speak for them, but I have a strong suspicion many veterans would reject the idea that support for Alberta independence cancels out their right to wear a poppy. He also appealed to his grandfather fighting in the war for Canada. I treated that seriously, because I do respect that. But then I asked the obvious question: what did his grandfather actually fight for? That should have been the easiest answer in the world. He could have said freedom of speech, freedom of religion, basic liberty, self-government, or the rights that make a country worth defending. But the only real answer he could give was the freedom to survive here". That answer stuck with me, because it reveals something deeper than I think he meant to reveal. Too many pro-Canada arguments today sound like that. Not a vision of freedom. Not a belief in sovereignty. Not even a confident defence of rights. Just survival. That is the irony. The people accusing Alberta independence supporters of being dangerous often sound like they have given up on the very idea of living freely and building something better. They do not speak like people with a dream. They speak like people hanging on. Then, after all that, he pushed the claim that the UCP are “banning books.” That is incredibly disingenuous. The issue is sexually explicit material in school libraries. The facts are easy to find, and reducing that debate to “book banning” is a dishonest slogan designed to inflame people instead of inform them. And yes, I think defending that kind of material in schools is shameful. If that is the hill some pro-Canada activists want to die on, they should at least be honest about what they are defending. This whole exchange says a lot. Alberta independence supporters are constantly asked to explain what we are for, while Canada’s defenders too often fall back on emotional slogans, weak smears, and a vision of life that amounts to little more than survival. #WATCH: A man who confronted a thief stealing his bike at the University of Alberta was assaulted and left without his bicycle. “I was assaulted and robbed at the University of Alberta, right in front of the business school. Two guys were stealing my bike, and when I confronted them, they fought back. I managed to get away with a few bruises and a torn ligament. I think the strongest part of Option 2 is also the simplest: we don’t have to agree on independence yet. October 19 isn’t the independence vote. It’s our opportunity to give Alberta leverage and find out what Canada is actually prepared to offer when Ottawa understands that Albertans have another option. This Filipino Albertan supports Alberta independence because he recognizes what is happening in Canada. He came here in 1994. He loved Canada. He raised the Canadian flag proudly. But now he says this is not the same country anymore. Government overreach. Fear of speaking openly. Rising costs. Politicians who take more and give less back to the people. Many immigrants came to Canada because they wanted freedom, opportunity, and honest government. When they start warning us that Canada is beginning to look like the places they left, we should listen. Bolt Africa Bolt💔⁉️🇿🇦 I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a Bolt trip during which I was placed in serious danger due to the drvers negligent and unsafe conduct.... I was picked up in Johannesburg and noticed while we were travelling on the N1 towards Randburg that the driver appeared extremely tired. The vehicle repeatedly moved onto the white lane markings, and I had to alert the driver that we were driving on top of the lines..... Shortly afterwards, i observed through the rear-view mirror that the driver was repeatedly closing his eyes while driving. Concerned for my safety, l recorded a video because I intended to report the incident. .... "In the videos attached, you can clearly see that the driver's eyes were closing while he was driving. The footage shows him repeatedly struggling to keep his eyes open, which put my safety and the safety of other road users at risk." The driver's eyes were visibly closing while the vehicle was moving at speed on a busy highway At one point, the driver appeared to fall asleep while driving and the vehicle started moving into other lanes while his eyes were closed. I had to tap his shoulder to wake him up. A few minutes later, I believed he had recovered, but as we approached a traffic light l noticed that the traffic signal was red and the driver was not slowing down. Instead, the vehicle continued accelerating. When I looked again, I saw that his eyes were closed. I immediately tapped him again, but he was unable to avoid a collision and crashed into a Ford vehicle Fortunately, I was seated in the back and was not seriously injured, although! experienced pain in my knee immediately after the collision. The police attended the scene following the accident. What concerns me most is that this accident appears to have been caused by the driver's fatigue and repeated loss of attention while operating the vehicle. leven provided video evidence to the driver of the Ford because the Bolt driver was blaming the other driver despite having fallen asleep behind the wheel Passengers trust Bolt to provide safe transportation. A driver who is too tired to remain awake should not be accepting trips, as this places passengers and other road users at risk of serious injury or death. I request that Bolt conduct a full investigation into this incident, review any available trip data and the video evidence, and take appropriate action regarding the driver's conduct. I would also appreciate confirmation that this complaint has been received and information on the outcome of the investigation.

Then he said Alberta leaving Canada isn’t legal because one judge said the petition can’t be counted. So I asked him: If that decision was successfully appealed, would that change your mind? He said no. And that’s the whole point. For a lot of people, “it’s not legal” is not actually a legal argument. It’s just a talking point. The second the legal process doesn’t support them anymore, they still oppose it anyway. Quebec had two referendums. The Supreme Court already dealt with the issue of secession. But somehow when Alberta wants to even talk about it, people act like the conversation itself is forbidden. All the more reason for Alberta to quickly get off this dystopian train.

This is one of the more uncomfortable moments from my recent Sylvan Lake video. I was walking past a group of guys openly drinking on the beach. They were visibly drunk, and I hesitated to talk to them because it did not feel like a productive situation. I tried to keep walking, but one guy followed me a bit and wanted to speak his mind. At that point, the camera became a bit of a buffer. I let him talk, stayed calm, and tried to keep the situation from turning worse. This clip is not just about one drunk guy at the beach. It shows how risky it can be to talk openly about Alberta independence in public. Some people on the other side feel bold, untouchable, and completely convinced that they are automatically right. He does touch on a few notable topics, which is why I kept it in the main video for posterity. But my advice is simple: If you do not want to be on the internet, do not walk up to someone with a camera and start talking. Watch the full video here:

A few days ago Kathy Flett (insert Alberta flag here) and I had a woman walk up to us in the park and tell us she disagreed with Alberta independence. To be clear, I was already obviously recording our conversation with a LARGE camera. She said she didn’t want to be recorded, but then continued engaging in the conversation while the camera was still there. My position is simple: if you keep talking to someone who is clearly recording in a public place, that is consent enough for me. And in public, consent to record is not required anyway. It’s just a polite thing to ask or respect when possible. That said, I still blurred her identifiable features and even adjusted her voice because I’m not trying to embarrass anyone. I’m trying to have real conversations with Albertans. She talked about immigrating to Canada from Ireland as a child, how her family chose Canada because of Canadian values, and how she worries Alberta is moving away from things like a social safety net, education, professions, and liberal democracy. I don’t agree with her conclusion, but I do think the conversation revealed something important. A lot of people who oppose Alberta independence are angry at the Alberta government. Fair enough. So am I on many issues. But my answer is not to cling harder to a broken Canadian system. My answer is to ask whether the system itself is the problem. If both Ottawa and Edmonton keep failing people, then the answer isn’t more of the same. Alberta Independence is about the power to build something better.
