$835,000 Larry Bushart, a former police officer from Tennessee, was awarded $835,000 after being jailed for 37 days over a social media meme. In Sept 2025, following Kirkโ€™s assassination, Bushart posted a meme on Facebook quoting Trumpโ€™s response to a school shooting at Perry High School in Iowa: "We have to get over it." On Sept 22, he was arrested and charged with making "threats of mass violence on school property" Sheriff Nick Weems, who directed the arrest, claimed Bushart posted the meme "to indicate or make the audience think it was referencing our Perry High School" in Tennessee even though he and his investigators knew from the start that the meme referred to the 2024 Perry High School shooting in Iowa, not the local school. He also said it caused "mass hysteria" as parents, teachers and students believed it referred to a "hypothetical shooting" at the local school but he did not present evidence to support those claims. Bushartโ€™s bond was set at a staggering $2 million and he spent 37 days in jail. In Oct 2025, Perry County released him from jail following nationwide outrage and media scrutiny. He lost his post-retirement job and missed both his wedding anniversary and the birth of his grandchild. He later teamed up with FIRE and sued the sheriff, the investigator, and the county for violating his First, Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights. On May 14, 2026, the parties settled the case for $835,000. "I am pleased my First Amendment rights have been vindicated," said Larry Bushart.

Weโ€™re partnering with Paul Jankura to launch the biggest Protein Design Competition in the world, challenging people around the world to use AI to design new potential drug candidates for diseases that affect millions of lives. The competition will feature five challenges, each focused on a specific disease or biological mechanism. Compared to previous competitions, it will be a big step-up in complexity and scale to push the boundaries of AI-driven protein design. Together with Anthropic, weโ€™re sponsoring over $1 million in experimental validation, making it possible to test more than 5,000 protein designs in our automated lab at no cost to participants. Anthropic is providing an additional $1 million in Claude credits. All experimental results will be published openly on Proteinbase, including designs that didnโ€™t work, so anyone can access the data and build on what we learn. The competition is open to everyone and free to enter. It will feature 3 tracks: - Track 1 is aimed at expert protein designers, with up to 20 teams to be selected. - Track 2 is targeting life science academics and industry researchers. - Track 3 is open to everyone from tech enthusiasts to high-school students. By combining Anthropicโ€™s models with access to our automated lab, we want to make it possible for anyone with a laptop and an internet connection to join the global effort to advance human health with AI. A big thanks to Modal for contributing compute for protein design and to Twist Bioscience for contributing the DNA for the experimental validation! Sign up link below -

Look at how American children live! I filmed this on my way home from New York City after attending the World Falun Dafa Day parade a few days ago. I happened to get stuck behind a school bus, which kept stopping and delayed me quite a bit โ€” but it also gave me a chance to closely observe the happy lives of these children. As you can see, the school bus drops each child off right at their home. Sometimes two houses are only five or ten meters apart, yet the bus still stops separately for each family. It doesnโ€™t try to save time by dropping the children somewhere in between and making them walk home on their own. Around the 10-second mark in the video, you can see a small child get off the bus and cross the street to go home. Thatโ€™s why in the United States, whenever a school bus stops, not only must all the cars behind it stop, but even the cars coming from the opposite direction must stop as well โ€” all to ensure children can cross the road safely. I filmed both of these clips from inside my car. I was quite amazed that day, but I hadnโ€™t had time to share them until now. Today I finally wanted to show everyone. This is what a society built for people looks like! And compare American children's lives with those of Chinese children! A follower of my Chinese language account ๆ›พ้Œš says that a lot of Chinese middle and high-school students are just like prisoners, and their parents are only allowed to visit them at school once a month!
