My guess is that the Trackhouse cars went in the grass in order to pick up some debris to help make weight but I'm not sure why it suddenly became a big deal or why they were singled out as drivers do it often and they weren't the only ones that did it at Gateway. An example:

Video shows extensive debris across a campsite in the area, and Reuters reported that more than two dozen people were injured at a nearby hotel. At least two of those injured were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The tornado was among the violent weather introduced by Storm Claudia, which killed at least two other people in the country.
