THE FIRST WAVE ON THE BEACH WON’T BE HUMAN ANYMORE. Multi-legged robots don’t need the beach cleared first. That’s the entire point. Ukraine already ran the real version of this. An uncrewed boat dropped a robot on a beach. It opened fire with a remote machine gun before a single soldier landed. China’s done it too. PLA footage from October 2025 showed robot dogs paired with drones in a live amphibious landing drill near Taiwan. The real mission set: underwater beach surveys, mine detection, coastal mapping. Jobs that used to send Navy SEALs in first. This is now an official vehicle category for defense contractors — beach landings, amphibious recon, route clearance through the surf zone. The honest catch: this is mostly recon and mine-clearance, not an armed assault unit yet. Beaches used to be cleared by soldiers. Now it’s machines. Would you trust a robot to scout the beach before you land on it?

This footage captures the December 29, 2024 crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216, a Boeing 737-800, at Muan International Airport in South Korea. The domestic flight departed from Jeju International Airport and was bound for Muan International Airport. During the initial approach to Muan, the aircraft suffered a dual bird strike, resulting in an engine flameout and thrust loss. The crew declared a mayday and initiated a go-around. During the subsequent emergency landing attempt, the landing gear failed to deploy, forcing the pilots to attempt a belly landing. The aircraft touched down far past the normal touchdown zone. Skidding down the runway on its engine nacelles at high speed, the aircraft overshot the runway boundary, collided with a concrete earth berm supporting the Instrument Landing System (ILS) structure, and broke apart in a massive fireball. Of the 181 people on board, 179 were killed, and two crew members survived with critical injuries.

A pilot landed a plane in the ocean near a Florida beach and survived Faith Tankley was flying from Fort Myers to the Bahamas when, about 27 km from shore, the right engine failed, followed by a landing gear malfunction. She decided not to try to reach an airport — with a full tank of fuel, a hard landing could have caused a fire. Tankley turned the plane toward the ocean, avoided people and buildings, and managed to land it on the water. The plane suffered almost no damage, and the pilot got out of it without assistance.
