Two things we have objected to as preliminary issues: 1. The requirement that only the head or chairperson or president of the political parties could attend. 2. The rather pedantic insistence on two persons per party has no legal basis or sanction, which is most unfortunate. We have requested... them to work out a system to ensure it doesn't recur. On the merits, we raised several issues: 👉 Firstly, we questioned the timing of the revision, given that the last revision was in 2003. For 22 years and over 4-5 elections: were all those elections completely unreliable and imperfect? 👉 Secondly, the Special Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) held in 2003 took place a year before the national Lok Sabha elections of 2004 and 24 months before the assembly elections. In contrast, the current electoral revision exercise for Bihar is being conducted with a maximum period of only 1-2 months. 👉 Thirdly, this disenfranchisement is the worst attack on the basic structure of the Constitution. You have abandoned the documentation process that has been in use for decades, such as Aadhaar cards or ration cards. Unless one is already in the electoral roll of 2003, all other names require a birth certificate, and in one category, the birth certificates of both parents are needed. How do you expect the backward, flood-affected, poor, and migrant populations to run from pillar to post to obtain birth certificates for themselves or their parents? If a person fails to obtain the certificate within the time limit, they risk losing their place on the electoral roll. They had an SSR, which is a summary revision, in October 2024. You give statements about educating voters and political parties, and having training camps for BLOs and for electoral officers. They said so in the published Election Commission statements of January, April and May, and finally, in the middle of June, gave a statement for conducting SIR. Our question is: why didn't you mention it before? A pan-India SIR exercise is a classic conspiracy of disenfranchisement. What the Election Commission is saying is that all previous electoral rolls, including the ones on which the 2024 elections were conducted, were allegedly fraudulent. Advocate Prashant Bhushan says, "The court has ordered that Aadhaar should be accepted as the 12th document, even as a stand-alone document. Today, we had a detailed meeting with our 12 PCC Presidents, CLP leaders, General Secretaries, and senior leaders regarding the SIR exercise. The general feeling within the Pradesh Congress Committee is that the Election Commission is intentionally trying to delete the votes of certain sections of society. The very design of the SIR exercise is aimed at targeting and deleting specific votes. We witnessed this in Bihar as well, and now they are planning to implement it in 12 states. Yesterday, they announced a different Special Revision (SR) for Assam. This is a sinister attempt by the Election Commission to undermine democracy in this country. Their actions are unethical and undemocratic. In Kerala, local body elections are going on. The first phase of elections is happening on 9th December, and BLOs are giving the final list on that date. The Kerala Assembly has passed a resolution to postpone the SIR exercise, but the EC is not listening. BLOs are committing suicide due to extreme work pressure; they are being told to complete the exercise within one month. Why such hurry? It is clear that EC is working on behalf of the BJP and Narendra Modi. Today, we discussed all these issues, and we will fight this. In the name of the SIR process, official Enumeration Forms collected from voters have reached the hands of the TDP/MyTDP team in Atmakur constituency. Private persons are sitting inside the Secretariat and openly entering voter details into the MyTDP App. When questioned, they reportedly say they came because Anam sent them. How did confidential SIR forms, collected as part of an Election Commission process, reach the hands of TDP-linked private persons? YSRCP has already submitted multiple complaints to the Election Commission regarding the illegal use of the MyTDP App in the SIR process, political interference by TDP leaders, pressure on BLOs, and misuse of official election machinery. But till now, no serious enquiry or visible action has been taken. This inaction is emboldening the ruling TDP. They are misusing power, officials and government premises to divert voter data into their party app and target votes opposed to them. This is not a mere local irregularity. This is a direct attack on the neutrality of the electoral roll revision process. The SIR process is supposed to be under the exclusive control of the Election Commission. It cannot be converted into a TDP data collection drive. It cannot be allowed to become a tool to identify, target and delete the votes of YSRCP leaders, cadres, supporters, sympathisers and voters opposed to the ruling party. We demand immediate action: 1.Seize all SIR forms handled by private/TDP-linked persons in this incident. 2.Conduct an urgent enquiry into how official Enumeration Forms reached the MyTDP team. 3.Identify and suspend officials who allowed private persons to handle SIR forms. 4.Ban the use of MyTDP App or any party-linked app in the SIR process. 5.Order a statewide probe into all complaints filed by YSRCP on MyTDP App misuse. 6.Ensure that every genuine voter’s right is protected and no vote is deleted through political manipulation. The Election Commission must act now. Silence will only encourage further misuse. The integrity of the electoral roll and the voting rights of people in Andhra Pradesh are at stake.

#WATCH | Delhi: On Opposition parties joint letter to CJI on the SIR process of the ECI and other election-related issues, TMC MP Sagarika Ghose says, "21 opposition parties met on June 8 and the decision was taken that we would work unitedly against the manner in which the SIR exercise is being manipulated to benefit the BJP. Elections are being manipulated. The electoral process has been manipulated. Voting is being manipulated to benefit the BJP through the SIR process. Now, in an unprecedented move, it has never happened before, that 23 opposition parties, this time including the Aam Aadmi Party and the DMK, they have also signed this letter we have written to the Chief Justice of India appealing to the judiciary on the manner in which the SIR process is being manipulated by the BJP."
