I have to say something. This is the bare minimum of the standard set to become a US citizen. They are speaking slowly and are patiently waiting for a response because the person being interviewed is holding a conversation that is not in their native tongue. They probably went to night school after work (yes they must have a work visa) to take english and civics classes. Once they are here for eight to ten years, as a productive member of society, pass a test on their knowledge of the constitution, and commit no felonies, they take an oath to the constitution and the United States and promise to protect it. People who are willing to do this, in my opinion, are some of the greatest patriots of our country. My heart swells and my eyes tear whenever I witness a group of people who have earned the right to take the oath of citizenship. To these people I say, “Welcome to the United States of America.”

That’s not the way I did it. It took almost 5 years, many forms, with conditions, without conditions. I went through a thorough interview which included US history and politics as well as informal/personal chitchat. Mind you, there was a written test as well!!

Do they not ask if they’ve received US taxpayer funded aid or entitlements? Because to me that would be one of the most crucial elements of whether or not they can become a citizen.

I’m now convinced the reason that someone would not become legal after being here for so long is because they don’t want to learn English

There’s more than that! Believe me. My interview was more than 10 years ago and there’s more.. civic, history, writing, reading.. and it is nice to know that you are officially and proudly citizen of this country 🇺🇸

That looks more like coaching someone on how to correctly answer question for the interview.

We have citizens in this country (native born) that don’t even know the answers to some of those questions! If some of these American hating citizens we have were asked if they were willing to bear arms for USA they would say no. This is a small part of becoming a citizen.
