(Or Makers vs Takers) “I'm all about discerning immigration, not on the lines of some cultural definition, but really around that simple framing of are you going to get social support services or are you going to work? Going back to my makers vs takers point, if the primary motivation for an individual to come to this country is to be given benefits, to be given payments, to be given social services, to be given support, I think that that person should be denied immigration. If the primary motivation for the individual to come to the United States is to work to progress themselves, to become a maker, to create things, to work in such a way that they can generate income, save capital, buy things, advance their family's position because they are denied those rights due to the tyranny of the place that they're coming from, then they should be granted immigration status to come to this country and contribute. Because at the end of the day, what people may not like to hear, which is the truth, is that every single one of those people is actually net positive in growing our economy. And everyone thinks it's a zero-sum game with respect to jobs in the United States, and we shouldn't let people into this country that create jobs. This is when we had to go meet them at the office to turn in the packet, and the mom was so proud that her daughter, she was able to, like, get her daughter onto the program and like, pass it down from generation to generation because they knew at that point they were, their rent was going to be covered for the rest of their lives. And we're not talking about people who are disabled and like, physically disabled and can't work. They may have been given a lot in life where they haven't really, like, developed skills or been able to, like, compete within the workforce. But where's the motivation? If you know that your rent's going to get paid, you can get on SNAP benefits, you can get free health care. We've created this society that knows that the government will take care of them and that there's no motivation for them to change their path and to take care of themselves. I mean, in the 12 years I've been doing it, I had 2 tenants work their way off of Section 8. That's it. I'm on average have about 80 to 90 Section 8 leases from year to year. So those aren't really great odds. So I think it would be good for the program to be revamped in some way, shape or form where it rewards those that work rather than it feeling like a punishment”

HODGES: I was criticized in the past, correctly so, for being too optimistic about when or what was going to happen with Crimea. I thought it was going to happen much sooner. I was so sure that we're going to provide stuff that Ukraine needed. I was wrong in that assessment, and we did not support Ukraine as we should have. Now, Ukraine, without too much help from us, is doing this on their own. And I think they also clearly are not being restricted by anybody else or, at least, they're ignoring it about whether or not they can attack targets deep inside Russia or Crimea. I think in the past, there were people who would urge Ukraine not to do this. I'm glad that has either stopped or they're just not paying attention to it. And so, they're able to strike with the frequency needed to really damage the infrastructure in and around Crimea.
