A) They were installed in the “interfaith” areas and, as a faith-oriented piece of equipment, they are also used by Christians around Palm Sunday and Easter, when the priest (I’m more familiar with the Catholic tradition) washes the feet of his congregation, just as Jesus did in Scripture. So, as connected to a religious sanctum it’s not the same as what they’re proposing now. B) if you’ve never flown with non-educated and Westernized Muslims, thank your lucky stars! My mom’s old roommate was a navigator and worked for a charter service after she got out of the Air Force. They flew pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the hajj and they had to have a biohazard team sanitize the plane; they didn’t flush the toilets, most time they simply peed and shit on the same place everyone else did and then tracked it back to their seats. They don’t use toilet paper or a washcloth to clean themselves, it’s their left hand and a bowl of water. What they’re proposing to install is supposed to go in the bathrooms where, I kid you not, Muslims believe that their feet are “contaminated” by using a toilet shared with kufar and they wash their feet in the sink and then don’t dry them but walk out of the bathroom to put their shoes back on. C) The cost of the already in-use interfaith sanctums is what you’re referring to and is so outrageous because they were sound proofed for the noise of planes. It wasn’t necessary because they’re not really that close to the terminals and runways that jet engines are a problem but it’s a compromise to the demand that the Muslim call to prayer be broadcast throughout the airport and that employees be allowed to walk away from what they’re doing to go pray. Like many of the large groups blocking traffic to pray, there have been issues with Muslims in operations areas stopping to pray right where they are; it’s caused issues in baggage handling where non-Muslims have been injured by the equipment. D) The biggest issue with a foot washing station in a bathroom is that it’s not going to stay used for washing feet because Muslims really do have the grossest bathroom etiquette!
