Sixteen days after Kevin McCarthy became Speaker of the House, Jack Smith went and got his phone records. He knew who McCarthy called, who called him, how long the call lasted, and when the call took place. They didn’t tell the agent who served the subpoena on the phone carriers that he was serving it on a member of Congress. They just gave the agent a phone number.
