First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine. The First Year. The First Battle. Dobropillia Sector. On March 7, 2025, the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine was formed, with the Azov Brigade as its core. Four additional brigades became part of the corps: Burevii, Chervona Kalyna, Kara Dag, and Lubart. The corps was commanded by Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Denys "Redis" Prokopenko. In August, the corps was assigned a zone of responsibility in the Pokrovsk sector, where key events of the Battle for Donbas unfolded. Corps units, together with attached and subordinate forces, were tasked with halting and eliminating the enemy, who had broken through the defensive formations of Ukraine’s Defense Forces toward the settlement of Dobropillia. The corps command ensured effective coordination among units of the National Guard of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Air Assault and Assault Troops, the Unmanned Systems Forces, and other components of the Defense Forces. This coordinated effort made it possible to stabilize the situation in the sector. In the autumn, the General Staff calculated that during the counteroffensive operation, approximately 175 square kilometers of territory were liberated. In addition, nearly 195 square kilometers were cleared of enemy sabotage groups. Starting on August 4, when command and control of Defense Forces units in the Dobropillia sector was transferred to the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, and up to the present day, the enemy has suffered significant losses. As of December 29, 2025, they amount to: • irrecoverable losses — 12,492 occupiers; • wounded — 8,346; • captured — 185 servicemen of the Russian armed forces. Over five months of the counteroffensive operation, a large amount of enemy equipment was destroyed or damaged: • 93 tanks; • 259 armored combat vehicles; • 314 artillery systems; • 1,821 units of light and heavy automotive equipment and motorcycles, including: – light vehicles — 618; – heavy vehicles — 33; – special-purpose vehicles — 43; – motorcycles and buggies — 1,127; • 3,579 UAVs of various types. The first major operation of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine served as practical confirmation that, under conditions of clear planning, unified command, and coordinated action by its units, the corps is capable of effectively countering the enemy, disrupting their operational and strategic plans, while preserving the lives of Defense Forces personnel. The year 2025 became a year of trials for the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine and, at the same time, a test of the effectiveness of the army corps system created to enhance planning and employment of forces. The Dobropillia operation became the corps’ first successful examination. New battles lie ahead, demanding willpower, discipline, and decisive action. Together — we are strong.

For the first time, the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine and the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted joint command post exercises with the support of the Security Assistance Group–Ukraine (SAG-U). The importance of these exercises is driven by the adjacency of the corps’ areas of responsibility on the front line. Accordingly, staff officers focused on synchronizing joint efforts and refining joint planning. "Your task is to make military decisions quickly and effectively," Brigadier General Yevhen Lasiychuk, commander of the 7th Corps of the Air Assault Forces, told officers during the training. In turn, the commander of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, Brigadier General Denys Prokopenko, emphasized that the purpose of the exercises was to ensure coordination at the junction of the corps, building an integrated system of reconnaissance, fire engagement, and mining to prevent the enemy from breaking through the defensive line. The Commander of the Air Assault Forces, Major General Oleh Apostol, also addressed the officers: "Officers must be able to thoroughly analyze the situation and provide the commander with objective operational information. This enables sound decision-making on the battlefield." "Every three months, it is a different war. You must learn quickly, adapt, and remain flexible," said Major General Oleksandr Pivnenko, Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, addressing the participants.

The command of the Russian occupying forces has removed from his post the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy for Coastal and Ground Forces, Lieutenant General Sukhrab Akhmedov, who was awarded the title of "Hero of Russia" in the summer of 2025. Akhmedov commanded a marine infantry grouping composed of two divisions, two brigades, and a regiment that operated against Ukrainian forces on the Dobropillia axis, within the defensive sector of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine. Earlier, the commander of Russia’s 51st Combined Arms Army, Lieutenant General Serhii Milchakov, another "Hero of Russia," was also relieved of his post. His units took part in attempts to breach Ukrainian defenses in the same area. Both were dismissed for a "lack of results." Large-scale infantry and mechanized assaults involving dozens of armored vehicles failed to deliver operational success and did not result in a breakthrough of Ukrainian positions. The only outcome achieved by the occupation commanders was significant losses in personnel and equipment. Since August of last year, when the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine assumed its designated defensive sector on the Dobropillia axis, the enemy has lost nearly 23,000 troops killed and wounded. Losses in heavy armor alone amount to 100 tanks and 263 armored combat vehicles. The removal of two Russian generals from their posts is an acknowledgment of the failure of the enemy’s tactics on the Dobropillia axis. But this is not only their defeat — it is also our victory. It is the result of the actions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine engaged in this sector of the front, who have demonstrated their effectiveness through coordinated operations and professional command leadership that developed and implemented the defensive strategy. Akhmedov and Milchakov will be replaced by other generals. However, they should immediately understand one thing: the Dobropillia axis is a place where Russian soldiers and officers are constantly being killed — and where the careers of occupation army generals come to an end. Glory to Ukraine!

⚡️🇺🇦25 kilometres. Six settlements. 120 square kilometres liberated. The 425th Separate Assault Regiment Skelia has advanced deep into occupied Dnipropetrovsk region — simultaneously on eastern and southern axes — in one of the most significant Ukrainian offensive operations of the summer. Liberated: Ternove, Zaporizke, Novoheorhiivka, Vorone, Sichnevе, Maliivka. How it happened: Dozens of assault groups launched simultaneously from the Velykomykhailivka area. Continuous air support around the clock. Systematic destruction of enemy positions along all axes of advance. Targeted elimination of Russian drone operators throughout the operation. Russia's 120th Marine Division — the defending force — took critical losses. A key logistics hub at Temyrivka village — through which a major Russian supply route runs — was struck and brought under Ukrainian fire control. Russia's 656th Motorised Rifle Regiment's personnel concentration point there was destroyed. Ukraine has extended its drone strike range deeper into occupied territory and taken fire control over Russian logistics routes in the sector. "The enemy has suffered significant losses and is being forced to retreat from Dnipropetrovsk region." — 425th Separate Assault Regiment Skelia. 120 square kilometres.
