These are the words spoken by all Ukrainian service members – the men and women who are now stopping Russia’s aggression and defending our towns and villages. In the oath of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are the values that matter most to our defenders and define who we are as a nation: freedom, independence, and the value of human life. On this Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we listen to these words with pride and gratitude – to each and every person who affirms this oath through their actions every day. Today Kyiv observes a Day of Mourning for the victims of Russia’s attack on the capital yesterday, which destroyed an entire apartment block and took civilian lives. Ukrainians remember all those taken by Russia’s aggression – daily, forever. We carry their names, their stories, and their unfinished dreams into our lives. In Ukraine today, memory is a living force. Every tribute, from quiet moments of remembrance to streets renamed after fallen heroes, tells a story. The acts of commemoration not only honour the past but also inspire continued support for those defending the country today and help carry forward the dreams that Russia’s war tried to silence.
