While aerial drones dominate much of the battlefield, ground drones are taking on tasks that once required soldiers to operate under direct fire. According to Brovdi, Ukraine’s Delta battlefield system recorded 6,280 Russian troops killed or severely wounded by Unmanned Systems Forces between September 1 and 15, compared with 4,998 during the first half of August. That puts the current average at roughly 419 confirmed casualties per day, while the force is aiming for 12,500 during September. Brovdi also warned that the intensity could increase further in October–December as Russia seeks to bring significantly more personnel into the war. The figures highlight how rapidly Ukraine is scaling its unmanned warfare capabilities as Russia continues relying on a much larger manpower pool. Kyiv’s challenge is increasingly about turning technological adaptation and mass drone production into enough battlefield pressure to offset Moscow’s numerical advantage.
