Russia is freezing Ukraine and doesn't care about its own citizens. In January, there were more than 1,700 reports of accidents in Russia that left people without electricity, gas, and water, according to Novaya Gazeta Europe. In the first month of 2026, there were 723 reports of power outages, 552 reports of heating outages, and 513 reports of water outages. A total of 1,778 cases were publicly reported, compared to 983 in January 2025. Belgorod (143) and Murmansk (105) regions and the Krasnodar Krai (138 cases) are among the leaders. Residents go without water for weeks, melting snow to obtain it; they store food from defrosted refrigerators outside, live in apartments where the temperature is only 10°C, warm themselves with gas stoves, and stock up on generators.
