That's so that the machine can either check that it's there or to check to make sure it landed right. That "wand" is on a limit switch.

It's a kill wand, it makes sure the product is indeed dead before it's sent along to packaging. Would you PREFER your chocolate to be all screamy?

Im guessing the "wand" is testing that the chocolate is actually inside, if it hits the chocolate some value goes up (I think impedance or resistance, idk) but if there was no chocolate then there would be no spike and it would know something went wrong.

Someone thinks they installed that $1000 process for giggles not because occasionally the cone doesn't seat all the way.

It’s to verify one has been put in place. There is no photo eye or other mechanism and the belt is ran off an encoder that drives forward a set distance each time fired, if the wand fails to make contact then I bet the belt triggers another time to place another.

Maybe it’s to make sure it landed inside the container.

It checks to make sure there is something in the hole before moving on. Kinda is necessary to the process line.

the limit switch is mounted on a shaft driven by a servo the servo knows at which position the switch is activated this allows it to detect improper seating and missing object

It's to ensure that there is something Iinside the packaging. If it doesn't activate the switch it could stop the line or keep the belt from moving. It could also signal for reject.

I bet it missed one time years ago and caused a big mess so now they do that to make sure it never happens again

its function is to check if the packaging is filled, if its not, it will prompt the conveyor with the packaging to wait and the conveyor with the contents to try again until the packaging is filled
