Umpire Emil Jimenez refused to grant a challenge twice in the Mariners Rays game. The first time, Julio Rodriguez immediately tapped his helmet after a called strike 3. Jimenez denied the challenge and ejected Dan Wilson for arguing. One inning later, he denied a Jonathan Aranda challenge. However, Jimenez...

Whether it's balks or refusing to honor challenges... THE UMP SHOW GOES ON!!!!!

This whole “denial of a challenge,” is one of the dumbest fucking caveats to a rule I’ve ever seen. If they want to be potentially right or wrong, let them, having that option for umpires only strokes their already massive egos. They’re so scared of being shown how bad they are at their jobs.

If umpires are going to take forever to give exaggerated strike 3 calls, then they have to allow the batter the opportunity to tap the helmet, like Julio Rodriguez did. Ump egos smh

This is all so stupid. The technology is there to know instantly on every pitch. TV watchers know instantly and then wait for all this nonsense to clear. The changes mlb has made have been great but this needs to be the next one.

People's exhibit #1 Umpire with rabbit ears in the old speak, and an ego too big to allow himself to be challenged. Hope MLB can get rid of him soon.

When the ump sees what he thinks is strike 3, does he *immediately* shout "strike 3!", or does he back up, and make a show of it with a little flair and punch out, like they do?. Batter needs to hear it. Also the ump MUST watch the batter for at least a second after he/makes a call.

It is as clear as day that some dickhead umpire will do something similar to this come MLB playoff time and @MLBUA and @MLB will roll with the old, who knew excuse. No excuse not to have every single call robo called at this point in time.

They really need to make it so that a manager can request an umpire meeting to so the other three umps can say “how’d you miss that challenge request? Grant the challenge.”

They need to take away the umpire's ability to grant/deny challenges. These clowns are making it personal and letting their feelings get the best of them. What a joke.

MLB has the technology to get every call correct but still chooses to allow the clown show umps impact the game. Giving the WNBA a run for stupidity.

the only delay either of those players had were from him posing and primping his strikeout calls. as soon as they heard him, they did their appeal. looking at his score for the season, you can see why he doesn't want to give challenges.

Umpire is admiring his own call instead of eyeing the batter or the catcher for a challenge.

Yeah the umpire needs some disciplinary action. This is ridiculous, he challenged immediately

I was watching this live, and the ump was completely out of line. It took him a couple seconds to make the strikeout call on Julio, he challenged within a second the his call being made. The next inning he either ignored or completely missed Aranda’s legal challenge. Ridiculous

There should be one-week suspensions of umpires for dumbassery like this. That said, umps take entirely too much abuse and MLB should curtail that so as to curb the environment that makes umps such tools.

This system is idiotic. Go to full ABS.

The point is the challenge has to be quick not to slow the game down. So the ump thinks he waits a millisecond too long to challenge and doesn’t accept it and. Now we delay the game 5 minutes while they argue about the millisecond. Makes total sense.

He taps his helmet simultaneously to the end of the umpire’s called 3rd strike motion. It was actually a perfectly timed challenge

MLB needs to aggressively purge these crappy umpires off the roster. Maybe even a monthly process.

What a pussy. Suspend or fire his ass for making the wrong call and then doubling down on it by ejecting the manager

BS. Crew chief jumped in to stop the home plate umpire from himself. He saw all of them, he was taking a stand against replay....crew chief wisely said "Whoa, slow down cowboy...."

Umpires whose called strike mechanic take their eyes away from the hitter are the ones having issues like this. Typical MLB umpires, no one can tell them to change their mechanics and avoid these problems. At least the second challenge was corrected by U3.

Why is the manager not allowed to argue this without being ejected from the game? He has to be allowed to stand up for his player without consequences taking place where he loses his ability to remain in the dugout.

Could it be that this umpire is betting? MLB needs to launch an investigation.

Home plate umpires should not call balls and strikes anymore thry dont need to, there is a system in place to make those calls.

Eddings & his crew saw Rodriguez's challenge, too. But umps don't like to overrule their felow umps. After the 2nd miss, crew chief Eddings had to correct Jiminez & allow the challenge.
