Umpire incompetence or a Rulebook/ABS Mismatch issue? 🤔 This pitch may have been both: -a Strike according the rulebook strike zone (3 dimensional/starting at the front of the plate), and -a Ball, according to ABS (2 dimensional/measured at the middle of the plate).

Always going to fight for pitchers. Strike zone says at the top of the ball at the top of the knees. It’s crosses plate in that spot. This pitch didn’t seem to get called all day. But that’s not the point. Pitchers need corners and a strike like this called ✌️

Trout's ABS challenge not allowed. Trout thought the pitch was originally called a ball by the home plate umpire (even though it ended up being called a strike)...which is why he didn't challenge right away. You can hear something before "strike." What do you think?

So much chaos going on here. Manager and umpire are going at it pretty hard, the umpire says f**k it, goes behind the plate and tells the pitcher to throw the ball. The pitcher throws it, and without hesitation, the umpire calls the pitch a strike, which leads to the dugout emptying and a brawl breaks out

This pitch was fouled off down into the ground, or so the Oakland A’s Lawrence Butler thought. The ball hit in the back of the batters box but then skipped out in front of home plate. Butler didn’t run and the Yankees catcher picked it up and tagged him. The umpire ruled Butler out. A couple of things - One, I always thought the back of home plate was the furthest point back for a fair ball. Anything behind that was foul territory. Two- I never knew they had a female umpire in MLB. 🤯 Do you think that was a fair or foul ball? And, did you know MLB had a female umpire? What’s your feeling on that?
