Are you publicly traded? I'd like to short your stock.

truly insane and wasteful choice

Why did you decide that using a whole bunch of MacBook Pros was better than stacking screenless Mac hardware like Mac minis? Genuinely interested.

You really bought MacBooks for server racks

this is bait surely

We have been doing this at a much smaller scale. But we are buying old macbook pros with broken screens. Saves us thousands every month running our own build servers and such.

Clever!

@spicermatthews You too broke to pay for an AWS subscription lol

@namespacelabs More github runners. My bill was $1000+ a month. In $1000 in broken laptops I saved $12,000 a year

I hope the single light-gray one is getting a unique hostname

"Mac" and "server rack" in the same sentence shows how serious they are (not)

Putting Macbooks in a server rack is something I never thought I'd see in my life. Americans love to waste money. It's like those pictures of startups with 0 revenue spending $20k in chairs and studio displays so they can post it on twitter.

Why not Mac minis or studios?

great job! apple is probably not planning any new desktop machines so this was the best choice.

We have been deploying capacity for 2y+ and much of our fleet is minis! Most important for us is to offer a great product to our customers. Apple has been delivering little to no mini/studio capacity over the last 5 months. We don’t leave folks hanging. Hopefully supply improves Sep 22 when the new minis are out (which we have ordered already!)

I’ll take “What does Chapter 11 look like?” for $500, Alex.

This is a bit embarrassing for Apple: why in the world they can’t produce something that’s not a laptop for this use case?

What the hell??? This is why laptops are so expensive

We're a customer, this is really how you run it? Did you get around the 2 macOS VM limit?

Kirill definitely doesn't skip ARM day.

That's not a server farm, that's the world's most expensive space heater

why not use mac mini or mac studios? why do you need a battery and screen for headless servers?

Curious how you're handling OS updates across the whole rack — Apple's remote management tooling for bare metal Macs has always felt like an afterthought.

MDM + in-house fleet management. :-)

Macbooks??

You cant be serious, this is rage bait right? Righhttt?

Meanwhile Apple

Why Macbooks though?

How cool is that. Curious why laptops though? The cost for the displays when you don’t need them seems like a waste.

Anything is a server if you hype bubble hard enough.

bro is doing the packaging team’s job in reverse

The stupidity of this video is astounding. I can’t tell if it’s trolling or seriously just funding being pissed away. Either way, not a good look for people that potentially could use your service.

Peak bubble behaviour. If I could short your company I would.

Mac mini: "Am I a joke to you?"

People will do anything to show off their arms

Looks more like a Russian money laundering operation. No one is building racks from MacBooks.

I have bad news for you guys

What software are you running on it?

This is the most stupid thing I have ever seen. You may have like 3x NVIDIA DGX H100 / B200 servers in the same price...
