Uncut Gems didn’t receive a single Oscar nomination in 2020. Not one. Zip. Zero. Nada. It should be noted that 2019 was “the last fucking year of movies” according to Tarantino (he’s not wrong), but there was still room for Uncut Gems to receive at least some Oscar love.

I agree 100% I thought Adam Sandler in uncongested an incredible awesome job. He deserve recognition and the movie could’ve been nominated for an Oscar. Best picture as well.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knive’s Out Mystery, didn’t earn a single Oscar nomination. Zip. Zero. Nada. I am surprised this didn’t receive any recognition for its screenplay, but that speaks to the quality of films that were released this year. The films that were nominated deserved it.

I’m still stunned Paul Dano didn’t receive an Oscar nomination for There Will Be Blood. I understand the Best Supporting Actor field was loaded that year (Bardem, Affleck, PSH, etc.) but there needed to be room for Dano. He literally goes toe-to-toe with peak Daniel Day-Lewis.

Eddington didn’t earn any #Oscar nominations today but I don’t think that came as a big surprise to many- at least not to me. Surprising or not, I still think this film deserved Oscar recognition & was one of the year’s best films. Not to mention Joaquin Phoenix is outstanding.

Ben Affleck won the Oscar for Best Picture for Argo but yet…didn’t receive a nomination for Best Director. This didn’t make sense back in 2013, it doesn’t make sense now. I’m not a die-hard fan of Argo, but if you give the film Best Picture, at least nominate Ben for director.

The Dark Knight did not receive an #Oscar nomination for Best Picture & it’s a decision that instantly impacted the Academy Awards. The very next year after The Dark Knight didn’t receive a nom, the BP field increased from 5 nominees to 10. This film should’ve won Best Picture.

Bruce Willis probably doesn’t get enough love for the things he pulls off in Pulp Fiction (he was one of the only leads in this film not to receive an Oscar nom), but he brings so much energy to this movie. I’m really bummed Bruce is likely done acting- he’s a force of nature.

There Will Be Blood wouldn’t be as good without Paul Dano. But somehow, Dano didn’t even receive an Oscar nomination for this film. Makes zero sense. At 22, Dano held his own with an acting titan. Dano 100% matches Daniel Day-Lewis’s energy here, down to the very final scene.

Weapons didn’t receive an #Oscar nomination for Best Picture and I kinda wish it would’ve. Perhaps this was more deserving over F1, but so were other films like No Other Choice or It Was Just An Accident. This was undoubtedly one of the high points of 2025 for me. Instant classic

28 Years Later is still one of the best films I’ve seen this year. I fully expect this to receive some Oscar consideration in a few months, especially for below-the-line categories. This sequence in IMAX kicked fucking ass. I cannot wait for The Bone Temple in January.

In Bruges deserves to be called a masterpiece- it’s a near perfect film but despite that, this only earned one Oscar nomination, and that was Martin McDonagh’s nomination for Best Original Screenplay. I think multiple actors should’ve been nominated & this should’ve been nominated for Best Picture. It just speaks to the fact that this film was ahead of its time.
