Due to the shared counter terrorism responsibilities of the Met Police the Mayor of London and Home Secretary have to jointly appoint the Met Police Commissioner. When Cressida Dick resigned (? pushed) Sadiq Khan rejected several candidates put forward by Priti Patel. It does make one wonder about why the current commissioner was appointed, bearing in mind the appearance of two tier policing, the eagerness to prosecute for social media posts while knife crime increases and the lack of investigation into grooming gangs and the extra taxes on cars via ULEZ and congestion charges. Almost as if there was an ulterior motive in the appointment finally approved by Khan.
