At the drain under concrete bridge near Deshbandhu College where 4 ft of silt could not be removed using aggressive methods, we became a bit innovative. Super Suckers meant to suck and drain water along with jet machines were used to flush the silt using high pressure water jets.

Along with flood waters, there has been a tremendous amount of sticky silt across people's homes, fields and the entire affected areas. Today, while visiting these areas, I instructed officials to clean up this silt at the earliest and reduce people's woes. #AssamFloodResponse

Not a shred of crops is left after the #PunjabFloods .. most fields are buried under 2–3 feet of sand and silt. In many cases, only JCBs can clear it, yet the Pb Govt has given farmers just 3 months for this massive task. Bhagwant Mann Manish Sisodia Adv Harpal Singh Cheema

#WATCH | Reasi, J&K | For the first time since the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, desilting operations begin in the Chenab river Salal Hydro Power Station Executive Director Anish Gauraha says, "After the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty we are working on an effective sediment management plan to improve the operational efficiency of the power station... It is difficult to say how much this will increase power generation, but it will certainly reduce wear and tear. Dredging is one of the key activities under the silt management plan. Through this, we aim to remove as much silt as possible to minimise damage. Plans are also being developed to reduce sediment through flushing..."

Magic Vetiver Roots! We know the cooling properties of Vetiver. But do you know the magic of Vetiver when planted around water bodies? Prof Ravikumar, TNAU, Coimbatore explains this at a seminar conducted by Cauvery Calling team at Trichy on March 22nd. Its deep incredibly dense roots act as a natural "sieve" that lets water through but traps silt! When water flows across a pond, it picks up fine soil particles (silt). If this water enters the pond directly, the silt settles at the bottom, creating a sealing effect that ruins the pond's primary functions. This stops water from soaking into the earth effectively. Planting Vetiver (Khus) around the pond is most effective way to manage silt and stop it before it enters the pond. Professor says that as a model of its utility, at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, they have planted Vetiver completely around their pond. Vetiver has high economic value and it can be harvested and sold also. Its such a wonder plant!
