The real opportunity here is shifting attention from celebrity presence to player development. If tournaments like the Durand Cup consistently give young Indian players meaningful minutes against strong opposition, that could matter far more for Indian football than any one marquee appearance.

While much of the world is caught up in the FIFA World Cup fever, a small but genuine reason to believe in Indian football is quietly taking shape. Minerva Academy has just won the Helsinki Cup 2026, defeating the defending champions in the final. This wasn’t built overnight. It is the result of years of identifying young talent, trusting the process and refusing to lower standards. What’s even more remarkable is that this story wasn’t written by a government project or a billion-dollar football system. It was built by one man with a vision Ranjit Bajaj. Indian football doesn’t lack talent. It lacks people who are willing to invest in that talent for years without expecting instant results. If India truly wants to compete on the world’s biggest stage one day, we need to back people who consistently produce players, build winning teams and deliver results. Congratulations to Ranjit Bajaj, the coaching staff and every young player who wore the Minerva jersey with pride. Maybe this is where India’s football story begins. 🇮🇳⚽

6–0, Read that again 🙏🏻 An Indian academy… Minerva Academy… dismantling a team wearing the badge of Liverpool FC It doesn’t matter if it was youth level, It doesn’t matter who was on the pitch. What matters is what it represents Because for years, Indian football has been told to wait. To grow slowly. To stay in the shadows of the world’s elite. But nights like this? They don’t ask for permission. They announce arrival. Six goals. No fear. No hesitation. Just belief. This isn’t just a result. This is a message. That somewhere, quietly, Indian football is rising and the world might not be ready for it 🔥

Sunil Chhetri is more than a name in Indian football—he is a legend who brought the sport into homes across the country and inspired millions to believe in Indian football. Born on 3 August 1984, Chhetri is India’s all-time highest goal scorer and the player with the most international appearances. As captain and striker of the national team, he became the backbone of Indian football, leading with skill, discipline, and unwavering determination. For years, he ranked among the world’s top active international goal scorers, standing just behind global icons like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi—a remarkable feat for an Indian footballer. Under his leadership, India achieved historic milestones: winning the Nehru Cup, SAFF Championship, and AFC Challenge Cup. At the club level, he elevated Bengaluru FC, helping the team earn recognition both domestically and internationally. Chhetri’s journey extended beyond India, with professional stints in the MLS (USA) and Portugal, paving the way for future Indian footballers to dream big abroad. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Padma Shri and multiple AIFF Player of the Year titles. But his true legacy goes beyond trophies and records—it lies in his discipline, leadership, fitness, and the inspiration he provides to young athletes. We must protect Neville D’Souza football ground. In the Maharashtra assembly I requested the government to make sure we protect the football ground in Bandra West used by thousands of footballers. We are always complaining about how the Indian football team doesn’t qualify for the FIFA World Cup or our Indian players don’t play in big international clubs and then these stories come in front. How will our footballers play in the top flight of football if we take away their grounds?
