Defensive Tracking Drills - Tracking drills begin with a simple block destruction where defenders work over the top. - Players must consistently gain ground by working downhill toward the ball carrier instead of shuffling too far away. - Effective tracking requires maintaining a hunkered or tilted body position with a forward lean while staying on the balls of the feet. - Defenders should stay square to the man they are tracking rather than staying square to the line of scrimmage. - The primary focus for defenders is to track the ball carrier's near hip to properly position themselves for potential cutbacks. - To finish the drill, players must explode through contact, ending with their near foot up and tagging the ball carrier's near knee.
