We shouldn't have to show Iranian women without hijab just to humanise them. I've done it too and on reflection, it reinforces a colonial lens that measures societies against Western expectations. Iranians don't need to look a certain way to deserve dignity. A society isn't validated by how closely it mirrors someone else's standards. And when people are fed a single narrative for years, the moment they see something that challenges it, the reaction is predictable: first anger, then denial.
