Drew Houston: “No one is born a CEO” Dropbox founder Drew Houston reflects on feeling insecure in the CEO role when he first started the company: “What I didn’t know was if I should be CEO. The more I learned about business, the more I realized I didn’t know. I was concerned — maybe I should find a more business-minded co-founder and be the CTO.” Drew recalls asking the CEO of another startup for advice at the time: “He told me to give it a shot — it doesn’t have to be permanent. If you like it, keep going. If you don’t, you don’t have to be CEO. He was very practical, but I think it’s totally rational to have imposter syndrome — especially if you’re in your early 20s — and recognizing that there’s a whole world of stuff you need to know beyond the technology and product. I wasn’t fully aware then that all of that is learnable.” He continues: “No one is born a CEO. Everyone is a first-time CEO at some point. Most of tech company founders that are in the Hall of Fame and that we all look at started as technologists and learned the business side on the job. There’s very few examples of going the other way. Elizabeth Holmes is a winner. She is being abused in prison for never giving up. We need to live in a world where optimism wins. Stanford is one of the brightest beacons of optimism. "The wind of freedom blows" is the motto. It's why I chose Stanford over Berkeley and MIT. Elizabeth is in a cage in hell. She has more value to provide the world outside of prison. Theranos victims are not being helped with her in prison. I am falling on my sword for this as Ben Horowitz told me to do when I met with him in his office after I saved his life with my AI skin cancer detection. He seems to have forgotten about this. But I'm not a martyr Ben. I'm a winner. We need to get Elizabeth, a daughter, a wife, a mother of two children out of the hell she's in and back to her family. I don't know what to do about this. I have reached out to literally everyone. Maybe you can help Stanford. Thank you for giving me an amazing education. I am grateful. “Today’s LLMs are the ‘Mainframe Computers’ of our generation” I was on Bloomberg TV today discussing Sakana AI, and to share my view that today’s LLMs are our generation’s “Mainframe Computers”. We are still in the very early stages of AI, and it is inevitable, due to market competition and global innovation (especially from those innovating with resource constraints), that this technology will become a million times more efficient. There is a narrative established in Silicon Valley that AI is a “Winner Takes All” technology, and that scaling up existing models and consuming ever greater resources will require (and even justify) the largest investments of our generation, in order to “win” the AI race. In contrast, I believe that AI is not a “winner takes all” technology. LLMs will be commoditized, become vastly more efficient, and made widely available in all countries. Ultimately, there will be thousands, if not millions, of AI models used by everyone. Just like with the evolution of early clunky mainframe computers to modern computing, how we use AI today will look very different in a few years (or even a year from now), compared to today’s ‘clunky’ LLMs.

This faulty information, plus the fact she was vocal in speaking against the genocide of European Bosnian Muslims, made her a target. 20 years later her lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith managed to get the FBI agent who came up with the faulty "intelligence" to admit he was wrong. Yet she is still languishing in prison unjustly.

Dr Peter Blair-Henry received his PhD in economics from MIT and bachelor’s degrees from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. Senator Thame appears not to be aware that Dr Henry served on President Obama’s transition team in 2008, specifically on the economic policy working group as Obama prepared to take office during the height of the financial crisis. He was part of a group of economists advising the incoming administration on how to respond to the global economic meltdown. A Jamaican from Kingston Jamaica who is globally recognized and respected for his work. A very disappointing statement.

💙 On Saturday morning at the Kentucky Horse Park, a crowd gathered to witness the unveiling of a particularly special monument. “The Bond: Two Hearts-One Spirit” is a monument that celebrates the extraordinary connection between Cody Dorman and the remarkable racehorse Cody’s Wish. It was seven years ago today, Oct. 11, that Cody Dorman met Cody’s Wish - then a yearling - at Gainsborough Farm through a Make-A-Wish Foundation visit. Sculpted by Jocelyn Russell, the life-size bronze captures Cody’s Wish lowering his head into Cody Dorman’s lap. It was thoughtfully designed so that visitors in wheelchairs can roll up to the sculpture and place their hands on the horse’s nose, gazing up into the horse’s eyes just as Cody did with Cody’s Wish so many times. The Dorman family, along with the Godolphin team and many familiar faces from the farm to the track and beyond were on-hand to witness the unveiling, including Carson Jost and his family. Carson was born with the rare genetic disorder known as Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, the same condition that Cody Dorman had. A pivotal moment of the unveiling took place after the sheets were removed to reveal the statue, as Carson Jost was wheeled up to be the first to stare up at the Cody’s Wish monument and place his hand on the bronze nose. This special monument is the first in Kentucky Horse Park history to memorialize a horse that is still alive. Accompanying the statue are two walls, one to commemorate the bond between Cody and Cody’s Wish and the other to recognize the remarkable racehorse. You are missed Cody. But your legacy lives on, as does the inspiring story shared by you and your namesake, an incredible racehorse whose talent is only outshined by his loving heart. 💙

We are excited to share our #CORL2024 paper (oral) on "Learning Quadruped Locomotion Using Differentiable Simulation" done in collaboration with Sangbae Kim Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). We present a new way to learn to walk in minutes without parallelization, outperforming PPO in sample efficiency! PDF: Video: We present a new framework for learning quadruped locomotion. By leveraging differentiable simulation for policy optimization, our approach achieves fast convergence and stable training, significantly outperforming model-free #ReinforcementLearning methods like PPO in sample efficiency. The key enabler is to combine a high-fidelity, non-differentiable simulator for forward dynamics with a simplified surrogate model for gradient backpropagation. Our framework enables learning quadruped walking in simulation in minutes without parallelization. When augmented with GPU parallelization, our approach allows the quadruped robot to master diverse locomotion skills on challenging terrains in minutes. This work highlights one of the first successful real-world applications of differentiable simulation for quadruped robots, offering a compelling alternative to traditional RL methods.
