I want to express gratitude to our air defense warriors—every individual in the various types and branches of our forces who protect our skies. Every night and every day, they intercept Russian Shahed drones and missiles. This morning, they successfully shot down a Russian ballistic missile. Every success like this saves lives. Ukraine is deeply grateful to all our partners who provide interceptor missiles and air defense systems. We are currently working to secure additional supplies—missiles, defense systems, and everything necessary to strengthen our mobile fire groups. Our strategic goal is to reach a practical level of cooperation with our partners that allows us to produce the air defense systems and interceptor missiles we need here in Ukraine. I am grateful to everyone who helps us.

A few days ago, President Zelenskyy said Ukraine has run out of missiles for some foreign air-defense systems. Given that Russian missiles keep destroying Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure – earlier in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv, and in recent days in Odesa and the surrounding region – I asked him to elaborate on the state of our air defense. He said Ukraine has asked partners for production licenses so we can manufacture missiles for these systems domestically, but no such approvals have been granted so far. According to the President, some countries are deliberately holding back these missiles and not transferring them to Ukraine, citing their own risks and needs – including the threat posed by Russian drones. “It’s particularly difficult with Patriot PAC-3. You know U.S. partners currently produce only 55–60 of these missiles per year, but I know they are working to increase output. I won’t go into details, but they are even working with European partners.I raised this issue under the previous administration and the current one. We are grateful to Germany for the Patriot systems, to the United States for the opportunity to purchase weapons and air defense systems through the PURL initiative, to the United Kingdom and France for the missiles, to Canada and the Netherlands for their contributions to the PURL initiative, and to all other countries for their assistance. This support truly saves lives of our people, and it is very important that new countries join the initiative. We discussed opportunities to strengthen the protection of our energy system ahead of winter: the purchase of air defense systems and missiles for them, as well as the reinforcement of our tactical aviation. We also discussed the importance of maintaining sanctions against Russia and other key pressure points to compel it to end the war.
