Western China-watchers love calling China the climate villain while writing their complaints from devices that had their carbon footprint offshored to China. China is the factory of the world, it manufactures much of what the planet uses. Yet its per capita CO₂ emissions are still far lower than America’s (~9.1 t vs ~13.6 t per person). That’s an astonishing feat by itself. Even more impressive: China’s emissions have now been flat or falling for 21 straight months (since March 2024), with a slight decline in full-year 2025 — all while its economy and exports kept growing. How? By leading the planet in clean-energy deployment at a scale no one else comes close to: record solar + wind builds, massive nuclear expansion, and fusion breakthroughs. The same countries that powered their own industrial revolutions with dirty coal, and offshored their own pollution, now lecture China for cleaning up faster than they ever did. They wouldn’t have cared if China polluted even more than they do today, as long as it stayed in its place as a simple order-taker: quietly making whatever the West demanded and slapping Western brands on it. But the moment China started innovating on its own and building its own world-class brands in EVs, solar, batteries, high-speed rail, phones and more, that’s when the narrative flipped. Suddenly they couldn’t accept what China had become. It was never really about the climate. It was always about China out-competing and out-innovating them. 2026 Conservative Claire Coutinho claims the UK's pursuit of Net Zero is driven by ideology, and that using less wind and solar could save the equivalent of around £500 per household a year 2023: Conservative Claire Coutinho, "Nothing will distract us from achieving Net Zero or driving forward with renewables" The claim that less wind and solar would save every household £500 a year is deeply misleading. Coutinho is effectively taking the result of a model that changes almost the entire future electricity system—less wind and solar, much more nuclear and gas, different grid requirements and, crucially, no carbon price—and presenting the resulting £500-plus difference as though it were the cost of renewables. The research simply doesn't establish that. The figure does not come from evidence that renewables currently add £500 to household bills. It comes from a Conservative-backed modelling exercise comparing two hypothetical energy systems and turning £320 billion of estimated economy-wide savings between 2030 and 2050 into an annual equivalent per household. Crucially, the supposedly cheaper alternative doesn't simply build less wind and solar. It assumes far more nuclear power, substantially more unabated gas, lower spending on networks and balancing, and the removal of carbon pricing from electricity generation. Of the £320 billion headline saving, £137bn comes from assumed lower network costs, £67bn from balancing and ancillary services, £22bn from subsidies and capacity costs, and £94bn from lower wholesale prices. That £94 billion is particularly important because much of that supposed saving is created by changing the rules of the comparison. The existing-policy scenario assumes generators continue paying a carbon price which rises substantially towards 2050; the alternative effectively abolishes that carbon price from 2031. Unsurprisingly, a model in which gas-fired electricity no longer carries that cost produces cheaper wholesale electricity. But that isn't evidence that wind and solar made electricity £94bn more expensive. It is principally the consequence of assuming a major carbon-pricing policy is abolished. Nor is removing carbon pricing simply £94bn of free money. Carbon pricing is deliberately intended to make polluters account for their emissions, discourage fossil-fuel generation and encourage cleaner alternatives, while carbon allowances also generate government revenue. Removing it means accepting considerably greater emissions and losing those revenues and incentives. The alternative model consequently produces hundreds of millions of tonnes of additional CO₂. The model also assumes Britain can successfully build around 20GW of nuclear capacity, while retaining much greater dependence on gas. Whether nuclear can be delivered at the assumed cost and timetable is far from guaranteed, while greater reliance on gas leaves households more vulnerable to international gas-price shocks—the same exposure that played such a large role in Britain's recent energy-price crisis. There is a legitimate argument about the costs associated with large amounts of wind and solar. An electricity system dependent on intermittent generation requires substantial investment in transmission, balancing, storage, interconnectors and backup capacity, and those costs shouldn't be ignored. But that is very different from demonstrating that wind and solar cost every household £500 a year. Nearly £100bn of the supposed saving comes from the decision to remove carbon pricing, not from discovering that wind and solar are £100bn more expensive. Coutinho has taken a £500-plus headline generated by a Conservative-backed model containing a whole package of assumptions—less wind and solar, much more nuclear, more gas, less grid investment and the abolition of carbon pricing—and presented it to the public as evidence that Britain's reliance on wind and solar is costing households hundreds of pounds. That's misleading because the model doesn't establish that. It establishes that, if you change the entire future energy system and the taxes imposed upon it, its authors calculate a lower overall system cost. Turning that into “less wind and solar will save your household £500” strips away the assumptions that actually produce the number.

This part of the Alberta - Mark Carney MOU that drives up the real cost of compliance, which Carney boasts will increase by 6x. "In its core, is tightening the TIER system which is the industrial carbon tax price system here in Alberta...it means more than 6 times increase in the price of industrial price of carbon from its effective level." Effective Price is the actual number that hits the operating expense the hardest and impacts the balance sheet. I guarantee you every company's accounting department are now doing calculations and any future investment decision in Alberta will have this in their decision-making. The MOU's whole point on the industrial carbon tax is the convergence of the Headline Price-Effective Price-Floor Price. This is what ensures that companies pay the highest costs, with a slight gap for functional gap to trade credits. With the reduction in the "free" emissions allowance by 2% annually, creates a double whammy that has significant and mandatory increase in the cost of doing business in Alberta. This is the foundational part of the financial engineering mechanism behind carbon trade based system the Mark Carney has been drooling to implement for years. Every dollar on this doesn't go towards company's core business; such as drilling, doesn't go towards paying down debt or returning capital to shareholders. It forces companies to spend $ and send $ to projects that may be completely uneconomical and less productive, such as Carbon Capture etc. UCP just agreed to the biggest cost increase and red tape for our industries in Alberta's history.

NEWS: BYD has launched its next-generation battery energy storage system. It has a unit capacity of 14.5 MWh, the highest globally to date. The energy storage system achieves an ultra-large capacity of 10 MWh within a space equivalent to a 20-foot container, BYD said. For a 1 GWh storage plant, it will cut the number of required units by more than half, reduce land use by one-third, and trim cell count by 76%, according to the manufacturer. It uses BYD’s self-developed 2,710 Ah Blade Battery cell, which the company claims is the largest energy storage cell in the world. "This next-generation cell delivers three times the capacity of conventional storage batteries, boasts a cycle life of over 10,000 cycles, and reduces the total lifecycle cost per kilowatt-hour to below $0.014 – a milestone that could reshape the economics of large-scale storage." BYD says it can cut project-level levelized costs (LCOS) by 21.7%. For a typical 1 GWh installation, total costs related to equipment procurement, transportation, and installation are expected to drop by around 30%. In addition, BYD has launched its new GC Flux grid-forming inverter solution, which covers the 2.5–10 MW capacity range. According to BYD, the inverter boasts a performance level approximately 38% higher than common industry standards and a maximum power density of 1,474 kW/㎡, which is around 130% above typical values in today’s market. The system provides an overload capacity of up to 3x for 10 seconds and reaches a peak efficiency of 99.35%.

And they've actually tried to regulate this in different places in Europe where they put up cameras that monitor their citizens that make sure they're not traveling too far around the city or even driving older cars and things like that. And the citizens have cut the cameras down. The CEO for Rabobank had said if you can't afford carbon offsets, you should not be allowed to fly. The only people that should be allowed to fly are those that can afford carbon offsets. And if you're too poor to fly and you want to travel, you should put on a virtual reality headset, and that's how you can see the world. They also want to control what you eat. And the New York City schools right now, they have taken meat off the menu for at least 2 days of the week. And the New York City mayor has said that he is working on a plan where he will limit residents' ability to consume meat. And then you have also, you know, ADM and Tyson right now are in the middle of building $500,000,000 plants where they are going to grow insects for human consumption, all in the name of climate change. And they want your land. Biden's, uh, 30 by 30 executive order, which a lot of you are familiar with, I think, um, conservation easements and then, of course, eminent domain in this state. Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan, has said using eminent domain, the government should take away farmland so that they can, uh, put up windmills. That's his suggestion. All in the name of climate change. Farm Journal's trust in beef program, which is where the $40 million went to. You can put, EID tag or a tracking device in your calf's ear, and they will store all your information, all that cattle all that animal's information. But then you put an app on your phone, and you put all of the information about your operation into that app, how you have to rotate your cattle, what you feed them, your land, soil. All that goes into the app. — So if you rotate or if you feed certain things, they're going to measure your carbon emissions before and after, and they're going to say that you're calculating your benefits. And so what do you think they're going to do with that information once they can control your entire operation and have all the measurements of carbon emissions from your entire operation, they're going to control every aspect of your life.”

Excited to announce UtilitySat, the world’s first multi-mission geostationary satellite, that we're launching at the end of this year. This is a first of its kind. And a new product line-- providing on-demand connectivity for disaster relief, bridge capacity, and other missions. We started Astranis to build something new: small communications satellites that provide dedicated broadband capacity for our customers. At the end of this year we’re launching four more of them on a dedicated Falcon 9 rocket, with many more to come after that. That launch of four satellites includes one satellite for Peru, two satellites for in-flight connectivity, and a fourth satellite that had been previously kept under wraps. Until now. Introducing UtilitySat, the Swiss Army Knife of satellites This is a new product— the world’s first multi-mission commercial GEO satellite, capable of conducting multiple fully-operational broadband connectivity missions. And it is just the first of many. We’ll plan to launch many UtilitySats in the years to come. UtilitySat can provide connectivity on standard Ku, Ka, and Q/V bands, and has the flexibility to dial in exact frequencies using Astranis’s proprietary ultra-wideband software-defined radio. It can also relocate dozens of times around the GEO belt over its lifetime. It does this using our unique on-board dual-propulsion architecture, which includes both a chemical monopropellant system and an electric ion thruster. A new mission every year, or every month When we first began development of UtilitySat almost 2 years ago, we had many different missions in mind. UtilitySat can serve as bridge capacity for a customer that is waiting for a dedicated satellite, as an on-orbit spare, or as extra, surge capacity that can be brought in to supplement the broadband service we’re providing to one of our customers. There are acute needs as well — a natural disaster can wipe out terrestrial connectivity over a huge geographic area. One of the top priorities for first responders and during disaster relief is reliable comms on the ground. With multiple UtilitySats on orbit, Astranis can bring in extra capacity on incredibly short notice. Capacity that is compatible with existing, low-cost GEO ground terminals. In initial conversations with customers for UtilitySat, we’ve seen huge demand — these customers often want to lease the entire capacity of the satellite once they learn what UtilitySat can offer. Customers need all the capacity they can get, and new capacity that can be deployed on short notice is a huge deal and a huge departure from traditional GEO satellites. We see a future where customers will be able to call up extra capacity on demand to augment their existing capacity needs, and we’re making that future a reality. US Government applications The first UtilitySat mission will be a commercial one, but we are seeing enormous demand from both from commercial companies and from our government customers. The US Government has unique needs — Combatant Commanders need to be able to task dedicated satellites to specific AORs at a moment’s notice — and surge communications would give them a new tool in their toolbox, helping them win even in a contested environment. And more broadly speaking our military leaders have said the one priority in national security space is to add resiliency to our fleets, using larger numbers of smaller, flexible, and maneuverable satellites so we’re not dependent on just a handful of huge satellites in GEO. UtilitySat shows that Astranis can do just that. Not traditional GEO satellites UtilitySat is only possible because of Astranis’s unique technology — including our proprietary software–defined radio. The flexibility of having on-board digital signal processing allows us to build a standardized satellite design, and move a lot of what used to be done in hardware, into software. UtilitySat uses the standard Astranis MicroGEO platform, adding more frequency bands and some new software capabilities to make maximum use of the available spectrum, no matter where the satellite is on orbit. Traditional geostationary satellites are designed to sit in one orbital slot for up to 20 years, with a set of frequency bands that is hardwired in at the factory. Their single mission must be predetermined many years before they are launched. Astranis does not build traditional GEO satellites. From day one we knew there had to be a better way, and we’re doing it.
