David Sacks: The biggest lie in this whole debate is calling it a “one-time tax.” There is nothing in the ballot language that guarantees it will never happen again. They’re not writing it into the constitution. This isn’t a one-time tax — it’s the first of many. The real goal is to establish a precedent — They keep minimizing it — “one percent, one time.” That’s intentional. They know the real value isn’t the money today, it’s the precedent. Once the government proves it can confiscate private property from a politically unpopular group, it will be replicated over and over again. Today they say “billionaires.” Tomorrow the line comes way down — because there’s not enough money. This has never been about billionaires. It’s about creating a system where the government decides who gets to keep their property — They say it’s “just the tip of the pinky.” But that’s how it always starts. Not the fist — just the pinky. The whole point is to normalize asset seizures so that all property is effectively owned by the government, subject to political approval. This is why democracy has limits. In the video, six ICE agents walk onto the property, with guns drawn, and start searching it. The property owner tells them to get off his private property, and they ignore him. Then, they start chase after a man, who starts running, and tackles him. The property owner runs over and tells them… “Get out of here. This is private property.” The ICE agent literally responds, “That doesn’t matter. He was running. Get back.” Then the agent starts SHOVING the property owner backward. The owner tells him, “I live here.” The agent tells him to back up or he’ll be arrested. ON HIS OWN PROPERTY. Then the owner asks, “Where is your warrant?” And the ICE agent says… “We do not need a warrant.” Except… that’s not how the Constitution works. The Fourth Amendment protects civilians from unreasonable searches and seizures. ICE does NOT get to just walk onto private property, guns drawn, search it, and ignore the property owner demanding to know their legal authority… because they claim they saw someone run. And what makes this even more disturbing is that when a U.S. citizen is questioning why armed federal agents are on HIS property, the response is to SHOVE him and threaten to arrest him. Because apparently telling armed federal agents to get off your own property… is now grounds for arrest. This is exactly why people need to be recording every ICE encounter. Because when the people with guns, and badges, refuse to explain what legal authority they have, the video may be the only thing showing what actually happened. The Constitution still applies to ICE. Someone rented their car out and the renter turned around and sold it on Facebook Marketplace? That’s an entirely different level of audacity. This woman’s dealing with the nightmare scenario every car owner fears when they trust a stranger, or apparently even a renter, with their vehicle. Now she’s out here trying to track it down and get it back, which is a legal mess on top of an emotional one. Never buy a car from Marketplace unless you actually know what you’re looking at, because you could be buying someone else’s stolen property without even knowing it.

California has a right to protect its own people. From dirty air and dirty water. Now, Republicans in the Senate want to change that. And repeal California’s right to set its own policy, even as they eliminate the filibuster to do so. It is a precedent they will come to regret. That’s the thing about a slippery slope. You can be the one who starts down the slope but you don't get to be the one who decides where the ride stops.
