The leading Zambian opposition leader and presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, has alleged that President Hakainde Hichilema sent the military to polling stations and that soldiers are now tampering with ballot papers. In a statement issued this afternoon, Mr Mundubile said his party had received reports that members of the military had taken control of certain polling centres and that ballot forms were allegedly being removed. “We have received reports that members of the military have taken control of certain polling centres and that ballot forms are allegedly being removed. These reports must be addressed immediately,” he said. Mr Mundubile said the military and security services have no role in interfering with or tampering with electoral materials that carry the sovereign decision made by the Zambian people. He said electoral materials are not ordinary government documents but represent the votes and democratic choices of citizens. He warned that any interference with ballot papers or other electoral materials by the military or state security institutions would seriously undermine the credibility and integrity of the election and called for the allegations to be investigated and addressed immediately.

According to Mubende District Returning Officer Ferdinand Tumwesigye, Kyagera submitted a forged receipt for nomination fees amounting to Shs3million. As a Candidate in the Election and being guardian of the Votes of all Voters in my Constituency regardless for whomever the voters have voted for I must share that as per Form 45 received so far from 42 polling stations out of total 159 stations in #PS110, #PTI is currently leading, #JI second and we are third and now results of remaining polling stations are being delayed or denied including using tactics like not starting the counting or Polling Staff making ridiculous excuses that they don't have hardcopy of Form 45 to fill and give to polling agents.
